I know that a few posts have been made concerning DHCP failover; however, no one has responded with their experiences. What I would like to know is whether anyone has made it work. It appears to me that since DHCP uses a Jet DB and the file can be copied to another server (Microsoft's recommendation for availability) you should be able to put it on a shared disk and have a start and stop script in the failover group to manage the availability of services. Since stop runs before start on a manual failover the timing issues should not be a factor. Any takers? I don't have the hardware or I'd test it out myself.

I am interested in doing this test. Unfortunately I am not familiar with DHCP and have a lot of other on going activities (all related to NT clusters). Call me (887-4077) or send me a mail to give me directions and I will make the test as soon as possible (I have to prepare Lotussphere in Nice next week right now) Regards Christophe. | |||||

Any updates on DHCP fail over in clusters? I have a customer with multiple plant sites that is implementing anywhere from 2 to 5 servers per site to ensure the availability of DHCP servers (they do not route BOOTP). These servers only function in life is for DHCP serving. I believe I can successfully pitch clustering 2 servers per site for DHCP and drive some Q4 business. All I need to know is can it be done? So I'm affraid that you need a resource DLL. Net starting/Stoping the service isn't enough. Didier > |
