-< Murder One >-
I rushed to my television last night to catch episode #3 of "Murder
One." Much to my dismay, it had been pre-empted by the real-life drama
of the Simpson verdict. Are there any "Murder One" fans out there who
know when the pre-empted episode will air?
The episode was on at 21:00 last night instead of it's
usual 22:00 due to the O.J. hype shows at 22:00.

Except in the Atlanta area. The Falcons football game will cause

| What ever they do it could be trouble for the series. They took a gamble
trying to go head to head with E.R. and it didn't appear to work. Now even if
they do come back in another period they have the problem most series don't
have of getting people caught up on their one big story.
I watched the 1st 2 or 3 episodes and kind of liked it but with E.R. being
Patty's favorite show and CH7 (NBC) not coming in well except for cable there
was no real way to tape it so I let it go. If that one story is still important
I'd have no idea what was going on.

| Can someone *please* put in a re-cap of last nights show (behind
spoilers). I had highlighted it to tape and forgot to set up the VCR -
according to the TV guide description, the closing arguments were
supposed to take place and Julie found out something shocking about her
husband. (what??)

| Last night we learned that....
Julie's husband has AIDS, and is in the final stages of the disease. He
has brain lisions (sp?), which caused the erratic behavior, and caused
him to have seizures.
She now suspects that he could have murdered her sister, and not
remembered it.

| I agree, I think this is one of the best acted, best written shows on
TV. BUT, if you miss an episode, boy, is it confusing the following
week.
Following the c/r are some things that might be spoilers...
One of the things I'm bothered about in this show is the break-up of
Teddy's marriage (the main lawyer). I really liked the relationship he
had with his wife and daughter in the beginning of the show, and I wish
they had kept developing that. Instead, the wife became a whiney naggy
person, much like the X wife of Capt Feurillo on Hill St. Blues.
Speaking of the Xwife...I had no idea what a great actress Barbara
Boson (the prosecuting attorney) is. She was wasted on Hill St Blues
as the whiney nagging wife. Her performance for the closing arguments
was stunning and moving.
I'd like to see this show get renewed for next year...anybody heard
anything about renewal?

Yes, I too am disappointed in the writers making the wife into a pain.
I must have missed something because I don't understand the motivation
from a loving wife to wanting a divorce. If we had seen some animosity
from the beginning, I could understand it, but for now I'm baffled.

| Well, Teddy's pretty much never home. All she gets from the marriage

| The way they handled Teddy's wife does seem a little strange. She seemed to
go rather quickly from a reasonably happy wife who was somewhat dependent on
Teddy to a rather independent woman really determined to break up. It usually
takes people longer than a few months to make that type of transition.
Either they are being unrealistic or she has some other motive for getting a
divorce such as a threat from Richard Cross of which Teddy and the rest of us
are unaware.
It's a good show, fun to watch. Sort of like seeing the O.J. trial all over
again.

|
395.19 | | CLUSTA::MAIEWSKI | Bos-Mil-Atl Braves W.S. Champs | Fri Apr 12 1996 12:59 | 11 |
| Yes, after that she seemed to change dramatically however she claims it
was a long time coming.
My theory is that there was a lot more to that kidnaping than we currently
know. I bet that after it happened someone contacted her and made it clear that
if she didn't break up with Teddy the kid would be killed.
I doubt it was Richard Cross. It's probably the real murderer. Anyone have
a guess as to who really done it?

| RE: The two-hour pre-wrapup episode
Lots of good stuff here. I will put it behind a <FF> for time-shifters.
Boy, lot's of red herrings in this one. And the discovery of the tape
makes a lot of stuff very interesting. My wife and I were talking about
the show, and I think she has solved it. The real murderer is:
The DA, Marion Grasso's boss.
Reasons are as follows:
1) He had the most motive: he was in Jessica's book as having slept with
her, and this would be definite blackmail material for a DA who is
running for governor.
2) It explains why he ordered the release of Richard Cross so quickly. All
Richard had to do was to let him know about the tape, and that man would
do anything Richard wanted.
3) It explains why Richard has not come forward with the tape before this.
With the tape in Richard's possession, Richard basically owns the next
governor of CA.
4) It explains why Richard released the tape now: since he is dying, the
tape doesn't benefit him in any way, and it hurts an innocent person
(Neal Avedon). It is not that Richard is such a good guy, but neither
is he actively evil: as long as he got some benefit out of hiding the
tape he did so, but now that there is no further direct benefit to him,
he doesn't care who sees it.
She and I both rejected Roberto Puertolegre as too obvious, and while Gary
Blondo is slimy enough and was also in Jessica's book, sleeping with a 15
year old girl may actually enhance his position and reputation in the social
circles he travels in, so there is no blackmail motive.
My only regret is that we won't see Grahame Lester hurt in this: if there
is a true villian here, it is him.

| Excellent final show - the ending actually made sense to me! And I
liked the little postcript notes that let you know what happened to
some of the major characters.
A couple of other comments behind the FF
I wouldn't have minded the DA being the killer - what a buffoon!! The
way he tried to grill Richard Cross on the witness stand was pathetic.
And Richard handled him well. I'm glad Teddy and his wife didn't get
back together. She was such a jerk in pushing for the divorce that she
doesn't deserve to get him back.
One final question - was the money Teddy had under the desk going to
pay off that judge/ Was that just to show his underlings that Teddy
felt that he himself was not god-like, and the staff should not blindly
worship him?

395.24 | would have done what he had to... | STAR::AWARNER | | Thu Apr 25 1996 13:30 | 13 |
| re: .23
I think that they were trying to show that just as Richard Cross was
not inherently evil, Teddy is not totally virtuous. It begs the question
of how far any of us would go to achieve what we believe in. The same
goes for Teddy's wife; she did what she felt she had to to emotionally
protect herself and her daughter.
So I think that Teddy would have seriously considered bribing the judge and
showed the money to Chris to let him know he was human as well.

| Good show, hope it comes back but the rumor is that ABC is not going to renew
it. It's an unusual combination of a dark Perry Mason and the O.J. trial. I
didn't think that was possible but they did it.
Comments and some criticism about the ending behind the form feed
SPOILERS
GO AWAY TIME SHIFTERS
I really liked the show for it's characters and style but I didn't like the
ending. It was basically a Perry Mason ending which is to say an ending that
has nothing to do with being a lawyer and had no relation to the clues given
during the program.
On TV Perry Mason was not much of a lawyer, however along with Paul Drake he
was a 1st class detective. He would solve his case and get his client off not
by legal strategy but by doing outstanding detective work to uncover the real
killer. Same with Murder One. By blundering they actually lost the case but won
afterwards with detective work.
Also, like Perry Mason the clues to figuring out who the killer really was
just were not there until the end. The killer was a minor character at best
throughout the series and one whom we knew practically nothing about. And just
like Perry Mason it wasn't until the killer was revealed or after that we
finally learned enough about him to understand why he was the killer.
Sill I like the show for it's style. The DA was clearly a put up of L.A.
District Attorney Gil Garcetti. All the characters were well done. The guy
who did Richard Cross deserves and Emey.

Murder One is back, but opposit Seinfeld(sp).
If anyone can help me on this one, I'd appreciate it.
My wife (Murder One addict) left for a research project in April to a
remote island in the north Pacific until August. I taped the shows after
she left, *except* the final one. I was busy moving on the 29th April.
Does anyone have a tape of the final show I can borrow, buy, rent, or
otherwise use? I would greatly appreciate it.
Please use e-mail (hacman::hack) to reply.
