| ALMOST PERFECT 8:30 Sudnay
Two successful overachievers accidentally meet and fall in love. Now they
simply have to figure out a way to be in the same room at the same time!
Kim Cooper is almost perfect -- attractive, ambitious and talented. She's
the only female writer on television's hottest cop show, holding her own
with co-writers Gary, Rob and Neal. But when her executive producer boss
is dragged out in a straitjacket, Kim is tapped for the big job! So why,
on the very night of her promotion, is she drinking alone in a bar? Mike
Ryan is also attractive, ambitious and talented. He's in the crime
business, too -- a district attorney whose life plays out much like
Kim's cop show, only for real. He also happens to be drinking alone --
in the same bar, on the same night.
Maybe it's coincidence. Maybe it's fate. Maybe it's because they both
think the term "sucking chest wound" is sexy. But if there's a way to
combine the worlds of "real" and "reel" crime--and have a meaningful
relationship -- these two will find it. Can a couple of workaholic
control freaks fall in love and make a go of it? Only if they stop
answering their beepers.

| CAN'T HURRY LOVE - Monday 8:30
What are friendship, love and especially dating like in the Nineties for
the twenties set? That's what this new big-city comedy looks and laughs
at. At 28, Annie O'Donnell, an upwardly mobile placement coordinator at a
New York City personnel agency, has spent most of her dating life
kissing many frogs in her search for a prince. Her best friend and
next-door neighbor, Didi, frequently offers advice -- solicited or not
-- on everything from the outgoing message on her answering machine to
how far Annie should go on a first date. Roger, Annie's endearing albeit
socially unpolished co-worker, is also in search of the perfect mate,
although most of his "cool" dates can be found dancing topless in a
cocktail bar or riding New York's mass transit system.
Elliot, another agency co-worker and friend, is happily married and so
has trouble keeping up with the list of do's and don'ts for dating in
this decade. Together, the young foursome braves the ups and downs of
love and romance, offering one another advice, but mostly adding support
and humor to what seems to be an endless string of dating dilemmas.

What happens if your "intended" isn't who you intended it to be? That's
the idea behind this romantic comedy about two young lovers in love with
the wrong people. Jessie Kent, who mediates arguments for a living, is
engaged to Elliott Gordon, a terminally unhappy architect whose idea of a
good time is obsessing over the fat content of foods. Craig Schaeffer, a
music producer, is engaged to one of his most neurotic recording artists.
When Jessie and Craig lock eyes for the first time at a neighborhood
Chinese restaurant, they suddenly realize what their lives have been
missing: each other.

| MATT WATERS - tues 8:00
"You wake up. Your stomach hurts. It's Monday, a school day. There's
this girl. You're obsessed with her but you haven't said a word. You know
there's going to be a fight on the playground. You really don't want to
know what's going on in the bathrooms. There's a party and everybody
else is going but you. You made the team -- but the team's a loser. Well,
it's time to go. Got to get an education. Besides, you're the teacher."
Matt Waters is a hard-boiled, 20-year Navy veteran who teaches science at
Chicago's Central Tech High School. His methods can sometimes be more
akin to shock tactics than instruction.
But that's only because he's learned the hard way how difficult it is to
get his students' attention in this inner-city war zone, where
illiteracy, drugs, street gangs and teenaged pregnancy are formidable
enemies. In his passionate effort to reach his kids, Matt learns as much
as teaches. Matt Waters speaks to young people and their families about
contemporary concerns and feelings. It stars Montel Williams in his
dramatic-series debut.

Andrew Clay and Oscar nominee Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull) star as Burt
and Alice Clayton, a rough-around-the-edges working-class couple with
attitude. Lifelong renters with big dreams, the Claytons want a house of
their own. One problem: they're still paying off that new wide-mouth
toaster. Burt's a postal worker (but only slightly disgruntled); Alice is
a humble cashier at a fancy car dealership. So the house will have to wait. If Burt and Alice are
great at arguing -- about everything! -- they're even better at making
up when the fight's ove
Between bouts, Burt bowls with his pal Lenny and the guys and Alice
plays poker with Lenny's wife, Phyllis, and the girls. The one thing the
battling Claytons always agree on is their love for each other and for
their children--twelve-year-old daughter Danny and seven-year-old son
Sean--even though the kids have picked up a few bad habits from their
parents.

This contemporary drama from the creator of Melrose Place and
Beverly Hills 90210 is about a cross section of young New Yorkers,
the newly arrived and the natives, whose lives play out with the same
intensity that drives the city.
The magnetic Peter Fairchild is the privileged son of a powerful New York
family. His newsworthy endeavors as district attorney are often
overshadowed by lesser ones that feed the gossip columns--case in point,
his burgeoning love affair with tabloid journalist Alex Bartoli.
Stephanie Wells is a recent emigre to New York, here to take over as
editor-in-chief of the slick
monthly magazine Communique. Stephanie's been given two immediate tasks:
overhaul the publication and fire its difficult nightlife columnist
Carrie Fairchild, whose mother Linda Fairchild-Rush is remarried--to
Stephanie's boss, the publisher. Carrie, clearly not the golden
child her brother Peter is, has developed the survival instincts of a
snake. She fights back by trying to seduce Stephanie's husband,
Mark Merrill, a school teacher who is rendered vulnerable
by a scandal that keeps coming back to haunt him.
Nikki Sheridan, a Soho gallery owner and Fairchild family friend, often
finds herself an unwittingly ally in Carrie's devilish exploits. Peter's
friend Gil Chase, a stockbroker with questionable scruples, thinks ending
relationships by E-mail is an effective use of the information
superhighway.

This explosive drama follows the lives of the judges, lawyers and staff at
a big-city courthouse, dedicated legal professionals struggling to
administer justice in a system ever on the brink of chaos. Justine
Parkes: Tough and sexy, the courthouse's presiding judge fights to keep
the system working in a decaying building while plagued by shrinking
budgets and overcrowded calendars. Wyatt E. Jackson: This new Criminal
Court judge is fresh from Montana, and his maverick sense of justice
clashes with Justine's, giving off sparks of conflict--and attraction.
Rosetta Reide: Juvenile Court judge, single mother and Justine's closest
friend. Edison Moore: young and very ambitious prosecuting attorney.
Lenore Laderman: sheltered novice attorney who finds herself transferred
to the sex crimes unit, where she is confronted by the parade of suspects
and victims, a test of her courage and resolve. Suzanne Graham: public
defender who champions the system's poor and powerless, passionately at
odds with prosecutor Moore in court and caught up in a steamy love affair
with him outside of it. Homer Conklin: Criminal Court judge who rules with
rigid authority. Myron Winkelman: self-centered Family Court judge.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
Tuesdays (9:30-10 p.m. ET) on NBC-TV
From the Emmy-winning producers of "Frasier," "Wings" and "Cheers"
comes this Chicago-based, ensemble comedy focusing on the life and times
and folks surrounding Steve Rutledge (Tom Amandes, "The Untouchables"),
an idealistic lawyer in his late 30s who once dreamed of making a difference
in the world, but now must balance that with the concept of making a living.
The people creating changes in Steve's life include his career-minded wife,
Macenzie (Melinda McGraw, "The Commish"), whose job loss forces him
to take on clients based solely on his need to make ends meet. His
scatterbrained brother-in-law, Larry (Larry Miller, "Pretty Woman"), needs
a new place to live, and moves in with Steve and Mac, bringing his hapless,
accident- prone nature to their home.
At work, Steve and his best friend and fellow attorney, Alex (Brad Garrett,
"Casper"), share, Jean (Meredith Scott Lynn, "The Marshall Chronicles"), a
receptionist with an "in-your-face" attitude. Speaking of sharing, Alex has
also decided to complicate his longstanding relationship with Steve by
revealing surprising news of a personal nature.
eve's beloved, feisty grandmother Eleanor Rutledge or "Gram" (Maxine
Stuart, "NYPD Blue"), who resides in an active senior retirement community,
turns out to be the one person who has him best figured out.
"The Pursuit of Happiness" is from Grub Street Productions in association
with Paramount Network Television. It was developed for television by
Emmy winners David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee ("Frasier,"
"Wings," "Cheers"). Dave Hackel ("Wings") is the executive producer and
writer.

I've heard SNL new season starts Sept. 30th.

Subject: fall grids, plain text
Here are grids for the new prime-time network schedules, in plain text (you
don't need a PostScript printer or the very latest web browser) formatted to
seventy-nine columns (you don't need an unusually wide screen).
These are the *regular* weekly time slots to the best of my knowledge as of
this evening. Special premiere or preview presentations may be scheduled at
different times, and of course series may be shuffled temporarily or perma-
nently at any time.
Sunday's schedule is divided into two grids to fit the format because it is
four hours long. All other nights are in one grid each.
