336.0. "Deadly Deception (made for TV movie)" by OOTOOL::THATTE (Nisha Thatte-Potter) Sat Jan 28 1995 04:17

I was flipping on Wed night and caught a movie called "Deadly Deception"
on (I think) Lifetime. I watched most of the first 30 minutes and then
decided that I couldn't stay up for the whole movie. Now I want to know
what happened.

The plot (I don't think I need a spoiler since it all happened in the
first 30 minutes and most of it was given away by the tv guide):

A new mom who is suffering from post-natal depression gets a call from
someone claiming to be from a baby food company. He tells her that
she has won a shopping spree in a town about an hours away. But she must
do it that day since they are only in town for the day. She
hems and haws but decides to do it. We see that he isn't calling
from an office (as he claims) but instead from a telephone booth and
there is something not right going on. She goes there and they try to
convince her that she needs to leave her baby with them while she
goes shopping. She replies no and they tell her that they will work
something out. Next thing you see, she has committed suicide and the
baby is missing.

There is a search for the baby and all the police find is some baby clothing
near a river. They decide that she has thrown the baby in the river since
she is suffering from the post-natal depression and has killed herself.

The tv guide says that a reporter convinces the father to look for the
baby and not assume he is dead.

Anyone catch this?

I saw this movie a few years ago.

From what I remember the baby was kidnapped by a family member that
noone knew about. I think it might have been the fathers biological
grandmother who he didn't know about.

Thanks for the information. I don't think I would have ever guessed that
ending.

Did the mother really kill herself or did she get killed and it was made
to look like suicide?

Some people might actually want to see this movie and be surprised
    	by the ending.

    	Not me, mind you.

I was surfing and came back to this about half-way through.
Yes, I believe the reporter suugests to the father that baby
    may not be dead.

To make a long story somewhat short:

Father has always had dreams/flashblacks of a beaded curtain. He is
convinced that there is something in his past that will connect him
back with his baby. He presses his parents for info. They finally tell
him they he was conceived before they were married (his dad didn't
know she was pregnant. They split up. Mom continues pregnancy and
has baby. After some period realizes she can't raise baby on own
and gives up for adoption. Dad returns to scene, mom tells him she
had a child. Dad and mom get married and go about getting baby back,
    they succeed.

Rich woman who had custody of baby until mom/dad get back has followed
baby's life. When she finds out her "son" had a child, she hires
this couple to kidnap baby..her "grandchild".

The dreams/flashbacks were from time he spent at foster mom's house.

It's a little complicated on how the father tracks all this down.
But the movie ends with him finding baby at foster mom's house.

No, the people that kidnapped the baby killed her. They wanted
to her to let them watch the baby while she went on the shopping
spree, she wouldn't. They killed and tried to make it look like
    a suicide.

A lot of people ended up dead in this movie. The couple that kidnapped
the baby ended up dead. The woman who paid for the kidnapping
committed suicide at the end as well.
