| I really enjoyed it too. The main character's (Devon) little boy has
a disease that can only be cured if he can be outside. I guess he
can't live in a maufactured environment. That is why they want
to colonize this planet since 200 other families also have children
that have developed this disease.
The ship they were on started to break up and they all had to make
emergency landings on the planet including the crew who were not
supposed to even land on the planet. There were supposed to be
15 pods that ejected from the ship, only 2 so far have made it.
The one with Devon, her little boy, the crew, the doctor. The other
pod had a man and his wife who panicked and took off in the pod
before anyone else had a chance to get into it. He is now pretending
that the pod ejected by itself and it was a good thing no one tried
to get in it with them. Of course, one of the crew saw him and knows
the truth about how cowardly he was.
There is another child in the group who's father is part of the crew.
She found a little alien creature who purred like a cat and decided
to keep him but he turned out to be dangerouse when he killed the
captain of the ship with a poisonous dart. She was supposed not to
go near it again but the creature came to find her one night and
she took it outside of the campsite to let it go and the little
boy in the wheel chair followed her and said that they were not
to touch the creature and he was going to tell on her. She said
no and go on his motorized wheel chair and knocked him off. He
started running in the woods and fell. When he was on the ground
all the hands came up from the ground, wrapped the arms around him
and brought him underground. In the meantime, one of the crew
(Antonio Sabato) was having dreams about these creatures that seem
to be made of sand and can come up right from the ground. He tells
everyone that these creatures are scared of us and wanted the little
boy to study. They found these underground caverns and found the
little boy there but he didn't have any of the mechanicals devices
on him that where helping him to breath.
At the end, they decided to start for their original destination before
they had to eject in a hurry and set up the colony for the other
200 families that were supposed to get there in another 24 months.
At the end, you see them walking, and you see another human watching
them from a distance. I guess he will be in future shows.
I hope I remembered all of it. I think I will definitely continue to
watch this.

>So we have a woman commander, trained for many years to lead this
>select group of people on a very important mission to save humanity
Uh, no. What we have is a wealthy woman whose son is dying of a
syndrome that the government refuses to even acknowledge. She put
together this expedition specifically to give her son (and children
like him) a chance to live. For her, this is all about her son.
(Naturally, they have to hit us over the head with this idea by
threatening her son.) She's not in command in the military sense, but
in the sense that she organized the expedition.
The group of people were "select" insofar as they had children with the
syndrome (but most of them got left behind), signed on to relocate, or
got hired to transport them.
It's possible they're saving humanity, but for right now, their focus
is on saving their kids.

I remember a couple of his remarks. He said it seemed funny that a

walked out into free air for the first time without so much as a golly.
And, that the forest, desert, and mountains all seemed to be about
twenty feet away from each other.

villian. Only major complaint is that it seems there must be a minimum of
one nerve-grating scream out of the young girl (Tru? True?) per episode!

The girl's name is True.
Tim Curry was definatly the best thing about the last episode. The show is
really schizophrenic in it's production. It's nice physically, decent sound
and some good to excellent photography (thanks mostly to the beautiful New
Mexico locations). The planet is *way* too earthlike, not an unusual sight
anywhere to be seen. The acting is all over the map but usually reasonably
competent. The worst part about the series is the writing, it's pretty
uniformly bad.

| re .10
Funny you should say the writing is bad -- I find it fairly ept,
considering the "family" market I assume the show is aimed at (7pm
Sundays is not exactly a time slot you'd find, oh, NYPD Blue in... :)
I like the fact that so far, there hasn't been a neat wrap up of all
plot lines at the end. You sort of get a continuing saga feel from it.
Also, for a fairly whitebread, wholesome kinda show, the characters
aren't too terribly bland. I can even tolerate the kids, although
somebody needs to do that discipline thing to True before she ends up
getting everybody killed.
Now, SeaQuest, which is on an hour later, has pretty uniformly BAD
writing, esp. this season (last season at least had moments, if not
minutes, of potential, usually ruined towards the end). For example,
last Sunday's episode was (I'm not making this up), Killer plants.
Great big hibiscusus wiggling around making Booga Booga Booga sounds.
No, really.
And the ad in the TV Guide said, "Killer Plants!" too.
Now *that's* bad writing.
In comparison, Earth 2 is Shakesphere reborn. :)

It can be a little difficult to "dress" the great outdoors the way you
dress a set. Expensive, too.
Re: .11
I think the writing is decent by TV standards. SF lovers have been
spoiled because most of the genre is deliverd in novels and movies.
Novels, certainly, and the non-schlocky movies have a higher standard
of writing.
SeaQuest has stupid plots. However, I noticed in the last show that
they included a little interplay between Bridger and Ford (Bridger
makes a bad pun). Allowing characters to relate to each other outside
the dictates of the plot is a good sign. It doesn't make up for
howling plants, though.

Nothing makes up for howling plants. :)
With regards to Earth 2, I do hope that Tim Curry gets to show up
again. They've certainly left the door open for it. Also, by stating
that the planet is a "refuse disposal" program (not your typical
euphemism for getting rid of undesirables), the stage has been set for
drama to ensue from our heroes bumping into more penal colony rejects.
I'm almost willing to lay bets that they will bump into one, who seems
scruffy and dangerous, but who turns out to be not such a bad guy after
all and joins the colonists, after having proved himself in some way :)
Not it would be BAD necessarily, it just seems an obvious plot hook.
I do like Earth 2. Pleasantly surprised by it. One of the few shows
where I will hurry home to catch it if I'm somewhere else.
Cheers,

Quick ending synopsis behind form feed
True (or Popet as Gaull like to call her) was totally taken in by
Gaull, when she finally saw what he was really like (inprisoning
the Terrians) she finally got smart. She told Gaull he would need
a vehical and she would remote call the biggest one they had and not to
worry becasue it was far away from the camp. But Gaull knew better.
True called the vehical and her farther and the others heard her voice
and they all jumped on and tried to hide. The vehical pulls up and
Gaull is ready to blow it up.. True yells "no daddy run"..and just
as Gaull takes aim - True's dad and the colored 1/2 man 1/2 machine
show up right behind Gaull and take aim. Gaull takes little True as
a shiled and her Dad can't fire.. the 1/2 man 1/2 machine takes the gun
and shoots the weapon (which is on the growd) and True gets ahold of
the Terrians color transmitter and she says into the hand held
transmitter "release/unlock"
The Terrians are now free from pain and Gaulls hold on them..True also
pulls the necklace around Gaulls neck (this was made out of Terrian
bones and would help protect Gaull since Terrians can not hurt other
Terrian's. The Terrians come up from the ground and pull Guall under.
Alonzo finds a hurt Terrian and he tries to help, but he dies. Alonzo
is upset and he say's something like "if you told me I'd be crying of a
dead alian a weekago, I'd think you were crazy"
Ully gets all better now that the Terrians' are well and out from under
Gaulls rath - then the two life forms part.
---
So ya think the Terrians will refrom Gaull and we'll see him again?

| Synopsis of the final act:
True overhears the plans and protests. Her dad tosses her in a rover
and says he'll deal with her later. She runs off to Gaal and tells him
that the others are coming. They need to hide. Gaal shows her how he
controls the Terrians through pain, which she doesn't like. She stops
him from killing one, saying he's no use if he's dead. He says if it
dies, they'll be able to make her a necklace of Terrian bones, which is
what protects him from retaliation. True says they should hide, and
Gaal points out they need transportation. She volunteers to call a
rover with her gear; it's parked away from the camp, so people won't
hear it leave.
Well, the transport isn't far from camp, and she's overheard calling
it. Danziger and company head out. Meanwhile, Gaal tells True he
knows she's betrayed him, and draws a parallel to the Trojan horse. He
prepares to blow up the transport. However, the crew has snuck up
behind him and Danziger fires a round that spoils his shot. Gaal drops
the controller for the collars. True grabs it and orders the collars
to unlock; Gaal grabs True. Alonzo starts getting the Terrians out of
the collars. Yale tells Danziger to shoot Gaal, but he can't because
of True. Yale grabs the weapon and shoots Gaal's rifle, resting behind
him. The explosion knocks him off balance and breaks his necklace.
The Terrians drag him underground. Alonzo finds one of the Terrians,
dying. He remarks that he never expected to find himself crying over a
dead alien. They take the dead Terrian back to camp and "return him to
the earth"; the other Terrians show up to witness this and then leave.

The last 1/2 I saw, was super. It really has me interested more then
before. I can't wait to tune in next week to find out more about
what Devon is up to and what she knows. What was that little thing
she vomited up? Was it a transmitter or a recorder? What else
does she know about the crash and who is behind it? Why did they
want them to crash? Didn't the powers that be want to find another
home and get out of the life/temp control habitat they were living in?
This is getting good.

Nice Summary of the poilot episode
Earth 2's pilot episode, First Contact, aired on 6 November in the U.S.
Produced by Amblin Entertainment & Universal Television, and shot in New
Mexico, the series is executively produced by Mark Levin, Carol Flint and
Michael Duggan.
The series stars Debrah Farentino as Devon Adair, the moral centre of the
show. She's the visionary of the series and in an attempt to find a more
natural environment to heal her son, Ulysses, she sets forth to establish a
colony on Earth 2.
Clancy Brown plays John Danziger, the ship mechanic. He wasn't planning to
stay but finds himself becoming, rather reluctantly, one of the group's
leaders after the crash.
J. Madison Wright is True Danziger, the young daughter of John Danziger and a
typical teenager. A bit of a tomboy and an outsider, she has a strong will
and loves the challenge of Earth 2 and has a lot to prove to herself and her
father on the planet.
Sullivan Walker plays Yale, the family confidant of the Adairs for the past 2
generations. Yale has a dark past which is slowly revealed during in the
series, and we will learn things about him that even he doesn't know about
yet. Yale is a cyborg, with a chip in his brain and a robotic arm. At some
point in his life his memory was wiped and replaced with a computer chip
which holds all this vast knowledge.
Joey Zimmerman plays Ulysses Adair, the young son of Devon Adair and truely
experiencing life and childhood for the first time.
John Gegenhuber is government liaison Morgan Martin, sent to monitor the
colonists' work and progress. Like Danziger, he wasn't planning to stay for
long either. John has spent his entire life on the sterile world of the
space stations, and to be thrown into the harsh reality of life on Earth 2,
it is understandable that he is probably the most frightened of all the group
and the one most likely to draw everyone into danger.
Rebecca Gayheart plays Bess Martin, Morgan's wife. Bess has a Mother Earth
quality to her and is a calming influence on everyone. A miner's daughter,
she is the only character to have been raised on Earth.
essica Steen is the inexperienced but competent Dr. Julia Heller. Her
chromosomes were altered before birth and as a result her genetic engineering
leant her towards the medical sciences. However, she was not the original
choice to go with the Earth 2 colonists. The crash on Earth 2 will make
Julia realise what it takes to be a real doctor without much technology to
support her.
Antonio Sabato Jr. is Alonzo Solace, the pilot of the ship which crashes on
Earth 2. He had no intention of staying either. Alonzo has the appearance
of a 23-year-old, but in reality is about 100. His youthful appearance is
due to the fact that he has been sleeping a lot in cold sleep through space
during a number of missions, and thus is still alive and looks young. His
age gives him a perspective, but he has also led a closed emotional life.
Finally we have Zero, a robot designed for construction work. Zero has a
personality not unlike a foreman, and is a very straight forward, gung-ho
type of character. Unfortunately he does not have the highest form of
deductive reasoning.
Earth 2 is set 200 years in the future, where the Earth is a dead and
virtually uninhabitable planet thanks to man depleting most of the Earth's
resources and the increasing population growth. There is a small mining
community left, but those who could afford it have fled to the space
stations. But, over the last several generations of living in these stations
a disease known as the Syndrome has begun to spread.
Eventually Devon gets a group of people together and the colonists head out
to G-889, but instead of landing at their original destination, they crash on
the opposite side of the planet many thousands of miles away. They have to
make the long and perilous journey across the planet to their initial
destination - a very, very long trip.
The colonists discover that the planet has an abundance of native life forms.
The most prominent of these are the Terrians, an indigenous tribal community
who live underground.
There is a nomadic trading class called the Grendlers who are also
scavengers. They are an exceptionally disgusting breed of creature which
will alternately help and hurt the Earth 2 colonists.
Finally there are small animal-like creatures called Kobas, which are like
pets, but also potentially dangerous.

of their DNA. I still get the willies thinking about being left

| Julia was basically extracting spinal fluid from uly to take
the DNA and insert in herself. She was justifying it (to herself)
by thinking to spare uly from the counsils designs on using him
as a buffer between them and the terrians.
The group found out, after julia freaked and tried to confide
in Morgan. When he refused to go alone with it, she tied him
to a tree. (during her irrational moments) They did find
Morgan and the next morning you see that the group left her
behind.

| Yeah, that was the basic plot! I remember some more.
True spotted the Dr. talking in VR to the Council. She ran and told
her father but her father didn't believe her. The Dr. was there trying
to diffuse the situation. A hand comes around the Dr.s neck and
injects some type of shot that knocked her out. It was Morgan's wife
and she knows something is up with Julia.
When Julia wakes up she sneaks out of the tent and Devon follows her
out and tries to find out how much damage has been done. Julia is not
thinking clearly and is screaming at Devon and starts to beat her up.
They have a cat fight-lots of punching and rolling around in the dirt.
Julia punches her right off a cliff. As Devon hits the ground, they
flash back to the tent. It turns out they had this fight in VR and
Julia is really strapped to the bed and Devon is ok.
The end of the show has the group treking along making their way to New
Pacifica, someting like 3100 miles away. Devon is clearly upset at
leaving the Dr. Yale tells her they had no choice, they could never
trust her and they never found her spy device.
They flash to Julia waking up in her tent. She walks out and as the
camera pulls back you can see the tent surrounded by tons of trees.

| Can anyone give an update? I missed Sunday. I did see coming
attractions for next week and I was surprised to see Julia back with
the crowd. Did they take her back this week??
Thanks,
Renee

| Plot synopsis:
The Terrians have Morgan, Bess and Yale. Mary and some Terrians visit
the camp to tell the others that the three will be killed at dawn for
what they did. Alonzo tries to talk to her and discovers that the
dream plane is damaged. Mary visits the three captives and tells
them their fate. Morgan is upset, and says something quietly to Mary.
He and Bess are blinded and led away; they eventually return to camp.
Before, Danziger had been ready to threaten the Terrians with setting
off more geolocks. Now that it's just Yale, he's not so gung-ho.
Devon is. She goes into the caves with Alonzo to reason with them, to
try to get more time and maybe fix the problem. Julia has been
studying the rock samples they took and believes them to be part of a
planetary communication system. Perhaps if they understand what they
do, they can fix the damage. Danziger barges in with some others,
waving weapons. Devon tells them to drop them; in order to have any
kind of future, they have to teach the Terrians to trust them. He is
convinced. Devon tells the Terrians that humans don't need to die to
learn something, it won't happen again.
Morgan goes out to the geolock with Bess to try to crack the unlock
code. He eventually uses his VR gear to do it faster. Julia discovers
that the rocks are part of an intelligence; she was trying to
communicate with them and they spit back a complicated syntax. She
thinks the rocks might help them break the geolock code, and tells
Devon about it.
Meanwhile, Mary catches Yale praying for forgiveness for whatever he
did. He tells Mary that praying is a way of searching for truth. She
says Terrians don't talk to find truth; they listen. She leads him to
a vein and makes him touch it. His memories begin to resurface, and
they scare him off. Eventually, he decides to stick it through. He
learns that he did _not_ shoot the unarmed scientists; instead, he shot
the guy who was going to shoot them, and gave them a chance to escape.
Rather than court-martial him, they wiped his memory. He now knows he
doesn't deserve to die, but the Terrians don't care, and prepare to
send him into the ground (that big mist pool that Uly went through).
As he goes under, he pleads with Mary to help him, telling her she
knows this isn't right. The Terrians leave, and Mary goes in.
Topside, Julia brings the rocks to the geolock. They make some
progress, but she observes the rocks are having a difficult time; a
really twisted mind created the unlock encryption, and they're having
problems interfacing with the device. Morgan puts on his VR gear and
picks up the rocks, using his own twisted mind as an interface between
the two systems. The unlock code starts to unravel, even after he
collapses. It unlocks and Bess gives it the proper instructions. The
ground unpetrifies and the petrified Terrian is alive.
Mary emerges from the earth with Yale in her arms. He thanks her and
tells her that humans need to confront their past. The Terrians can't
do anything more for her, she should join the humans. She tries to go
back into the earth, but can't. Yale tells her that this is how they
are punishing her for helping him; Terrians don't forgive the way
humans do (something Mary had told them). She runs off into the woods.
Yale tries to find her and bumps into Devon and the others from
underground. Happy reunion ensues.

Ditto, Seems CBS is trying so hard to catch
NBC and ABC that it won't any show that isn't
a instant hit.

I found this on the net about Earth 2 letter writing campaign to get it
on UPN.

Hi - I know this is a little off topic, but I'm sure there are a bunch of
Antonio Sabato fans who are lurking around here, still missing the good ole
Jagger days (nice, BTW, that the GH writers had Robin think to call call him
when she was looking for Stone - gotta love GH's continuity, it's been so good
lately!). Anyway, I'm posting this (only once, I promise!) for all of you
who have been turning to Earth 2 to get your Antonio fix. You may or may not
know that NBc has axed the show, but that UPN is considering picking it up. If
you'd like to see Antonio back on the tube on a regular basis this fall
(because no, he's not going to be coming back to GH, it seems), you may get
your wish from UPN - *if* they get enough letters in favor of the show! There's
a letter-writing campaign underway for this purpose; so if you'd like to
take part, and get us all another season of Mr. Ohsofine on the air, here's the
info:
send a letter/postcard to
Michael Sullivan, President of Entertainment
UPN Broadcasting
Paramount Pictures
5555 Melrose Avenue
MOB 12000
Hollywood, CA 90038-3197
and write "Attention: Earth2" on the envelope/postcard front!
If you want more info about all this stuff, please feel free to email me!

PS: If you're really avid, multiple letters are fine, as are letters from
friends, family, roommates, pets, strangers on the street, very small rocks...
