Good! Someone else watches this show. I've been meaning to write it
in here, but just hadn't had the chance. I really like this show.
Most of it at times is believeable and my heart goes out to Bailey
every time he faces a personal "little crisis".
I recently heard an interview on WXKS FM (Kiss 108) with the actors
that play Bailey and Charlie. The two of them have been called the new
heartthrobs since Luke Perry and Jason Priestly on Beverly Hills 90210.
The show's ratings seem to pick up each week so I hope this means the
show will be around for a while.
Boy, I can remember feeling like Julia on one or two occasions while
going through high school.

306.3 | Short synopsis... | ASDG::SBILL | | Wed Nov 16 1994 07:32 | 14 |
| It WAS sad...
spoiler follows:
The drunk driver who killed their parents showed up and wanted to see
the kids to try to say he was sorry. They all aggreed not to go but
individually they all went anyway.
The best one IMO was the oldest one. Apparently he blames himself
because he made them late (he was on a date) so they ended up leaving
later which caused them to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I'm sure someone else will fill in more blanks...

| It happened during the Thanksgiving episode in which all of the Dallanger(?)
kids were dealing with release of the guy who killed their parents. Bailey
was very angry and upset, and ended up realizing how much he wanted to talk
to Kate about everything. He went to her house on Thanksgiving Day and told
her that he realized how foolish he was to break up with her for the reasons
he did. So, they spent some time together and she helped him through his
anger about the guy's release from prison.

The next couple of weeks they are supposed to run reruns and then start
sometime the end of June with a new episode.
I'm glad it made it. I heard that they will try to concentrate more on
each of the kids and do less stories on focusing that their parents are
"GONE". At least that's what Entertainment Weekly stated.

I'll put this behind a formfeed:
Charlie got cold feet. He told Kirsten he loves her and doesn't
want to marry anyone else, but he just wasn't ready yet. He's only
25 years old and with marrying her, he gets the wife, the family,
the house, and the job. These are all big decisions to make and they
are all being made for him in one fell swop by marrying her. There
were a lot of tears but it appeared the Kirsten was going to wait
the 6 months Charlie asked for. Then Mom stepped in. Kirsten's mom
told her to give Charlie an ultimatum: he either loved her enough to
marry her today or not, she won't wait for him. He said he thought she
understood and he just couldn't marry her today and he left. Kirsten
finally comes down to tell the crowd the wedding is off, and Charlie
comes back. He has a talk with Kirsten and he tells her that he'll
marry her. He gets all dressed, everyone is waiting....but where's
Kirsten. Charlie goes to get her and she's in her jeans. She says she
can't marry him, cause she can't believe in him anymore. She can't
trust him to always be there. She moves out.
Charlie took Claudia on the "honeymoon" with him. She was wicked
pissed at him for screwing everything up with Kirsten. Claudia met
Enrico (son of hotel manager) and had a great time with him and they
even kissed. Charlie met Monica, a young woman traveling around the
world, rating hotels and pools until her money runs out. They slept
together and Charlie thought they had something going (major rebounding
here). Monica said, nope, we both know this is just a fling. Claudia
couldn't believe Charlie slept with this woman, but Charlie explained
about trying to make the hurt go away and because Claudia was now
hurting about never seeing Enrico again, they made up. when they got
back to the house, Kirsten was there getting all her stuff. She
couldn't believe Charlie went on the honeymoon trip without her.
She wouldn't let him help her and didn't want to see him when she came
back in to say goodbye to the kids.
That's about it for them.

| Was great to see this show get some recognition by winning the Golden Globe
for Best TV Drama last night. I was surprised since it was up against some
pretty heavy competition (NYPD Blue, ER, Murder 1, Chicago Hope) It is still
one of my favs and the writing had stood up well since the show started a
couple of years ago. I read somewhere that the actor (Jason London?) who
played Julia's last boyfriend will be back from reform school just in time
for the February sweeps.

Hey Vicki...didn't know you watched this show. I'll put the basics
behind a formfeed (though I missed the first half of it):
Julia was really torn about making a decision regarding keep the
baby, give it up for adoption, or abortion. Charlie was supportive of
whatever she decided to choose. Julia opted for the abortion: the
least bad (for her) of three bad choices. When Claudia found out she
was pregnant and was going to abort she hard a real hard time with it,
citing that Owen was an accident, should their folks not of had him??
Bailey tried to get Sarah to talk with Julia and she avoided the
subject. Eventually they did talk, but Sarah said she coulnd't be on
her side because she was adopted and if her Mom had made the same
decision as Julia, she , Sarah, would not exist. Through this whole
thing Julia really pushed Justin away. He couldn't understand what she
was going through, etc. Justin really blew up at Bailey when he came to
the house to go with Julia to the doctor's and Bailey said Julia didn't
want him there, that Charlie was going with her. Justin (rightly so)
went on about he was losing something here too, and nobody had said
"I'm sorry" to him or asked him how he was doing and he was feeling
pretty lousy. He walked out of the house, Julia came out of her room
to the balcony and said Charlie you better take me now. He said it
wasn't time yet, but she said "Now". She ended up having a miscarriage.
Claudia thought this made it "better", but Julia said "not really,
since she was going to do it anyways". Julia and Justin talked about it
and started on the road to recovery. The show ended with Charlie
sitting with Julia in her bed just talking cause she couldn't sleep.
It was a great show though having her have a miscarriage was kind of a
cop-out, but she had made the decision instead of the miscarriage
taking the decision out of her hands.

ah yes... another show that tries to get the "big message" out to the
teens and then wimps out in the end.
A secondary storyline was Bailey and Sarah getting ready to take the
"big step". Sarah tried to make it into this hugely romantic occasion
- candles, soft lights, mushy music etc. This really threw Bailey off
- too much pressure and it didn't feel natural. By the end of the show
the Julia situation had changed their minds and the big nasty will be
held off for awhile.

comment on the "big message" (behind form feed)
I didn't feel as if they "wimped out" since she had made the
decision to abort and even commented on the fact afterwards that
the miscarriage didn't "save her" from having to make the decision.
She had made it and was going to carry through with it. To me "wimping
out" would have been if she was still waffling over her decision and
the miscarriage took the decision away from her. It is very common for
first pregnancies to end in miscarriage...more common than people seem
to realize.

I only get to see this about once a season, so I have some questions on
the plot:
What did Charley do wrong that they were about to lose the restaurant?
Whatever happened to his life as a furniture carpenter? I don't really
know what the connection is between the family and the restaurant. I
thought their parents used to run it, but I didn't know the kids still
owned it or anything.
What happened to Claude's teacher, who Charley was dating?

I can answer some of this:
> What did Charley do wrong that they were about to lose the restaurant?
He lied to the woman he was dating, the one who gave him the money to
start the restaurant then almost killed herself when Charley tried to
break up with her. She won an award, and in her televised acceptance
speech she told Charley that she loves him. Charley didn't like it and
told her he didn't see the show. Then in an attempt to break up with
her again, he told her he wanted to get back together with his former
fiance.
This woman found out that the fiance was out of town and that Charley
was lying. To get back at him she told Charley that she was going to
buy the building that the restaurant is in and not renew his lease.
He played with fire. He's getting burned. Good show!

Let's see if I can put this in a nutshell.
Kirsten was on her way back with Charlie but started to break down
again. She realized that as much as she loves Charlie, he's part of her
problem and it would never work between the two of them. She went back
home to her folks and Charlie went back home alone.
Charlie and Grace started seeing each other socially as friends.
Grace started to see a guy and it really bothered Charlie. He realized
he wanted to start dating her. They started dating and really tried to
keep from sleeping with each other (Charlies decision) but eventually
the attraction was too strong. Grace's apartment had a fire so she
temporarily moved in with Charlie (he wanted permanent, she didn't).
He finally convinced her that they really did belong together and she's
now living with him (and the kids, who haven't really warmed up to her
yet).
Bailey has just been getting worse and worse with the drinking. His
best friend came home (broke up with "the one") and the spent some time
together. He noticed all the drinking and talked to Sarah about it.
Charlie was finally convinced of Bailey's problem when Bailey showed
up at Owen's birthday party trashed. Bailey was supposed to rent a
clown for the party, but instead blew all the money on liquor and
rented a clown suit for himself. He really scared the little kids, fell
into the cake, and punched Charlie.
The family decided they had to do something: this was last nights
show, Intervention. They got Bailey to the house by Claudia calling him
in a panic about Owen falling down the stairs. He was pissed when they
all ganged up on him about his problem. He wouldn't listen. Finally Joe
arrived and Bailey was yelling at him, "I suppose you're going to tell
me what my father would say right now" Joe said that his dad would say,
"Not my son too". The kids dad was an alcoholic. He stopped drinking
when Charlie was little and the wife said it was the liquor or them.
Bailey had a great "speech" about how Claudia got the great talent of
violin playing from Mom, Julia looks like Mom, Charlie looks like Dad,
and I always wondered what I got from them. Now I know. They really
thought this got to him, but it went the other way. He resigned himself
to being "just like Dad", an alcoholic. Claudia tried talking to him
about how he is her favorite, she loves him the best and if he doesn't
stop drinking she'll hurt him the only way she can; she'll stop talking
to him and won't see him and he won't be able to see Owen. Bailey just
looks at her and walks out....end of show.
Hope that catches you up.

306.30 | A mini update | JULIET::CORDES_JA | Eight Tigers on My Couch | Thu Apr 03 1997 14:36 | 54 |
| Okay, here's the readers digest version:
Griffin and Julie got married. I missed a lot of what happened before
the marriage. I think she wanted to travel and he was afraid of losing
her. He suggested they get married and she agreed. The way she
explained it to Charlie is that no matter where she goes she has that
(the marriage) to hold onto.
They didn't tell her family beforehand. They went to Reno. The family
was worried when they didn't hear from her and were a little in shock
when she came in and broke the news. Later they got together and gave
her their mother's wedding ring as a gift. Griffin and Julia did not
have a ring when the ceremony was performed.
Grace and Charlie split up. It was Charlie's decision. Grace found
out that Kirsten couldn't have kids and wondered how it would be
different since she didn't want kids and they'd be in the same place as
Charlie would have been with Kirsten. After watching Grace on the
phone trying to fend off Owen's need for attention Charlie decided that
it wouldn't work out between them. He told her that he understood that
she didn't want to have kids but that she also didn't want the ones he
already had. She tried to explain that she needed time. She said you
can't just add water and have instant parent. Charlie told her that he
couldn't wait for her to figure out if she could do this or not. What
if it took a year or two. Owen would be 4 or 5 and then she might
disappear from his life and he would miss her. Grace was surprised
that Charlie would put the kids before his own happiness and he told
her "that's what parents do."
I missed a lot of what happened with Bailey and Sarah. I think he
realized that he wanted to get back together with her. He kissed her
at one point and she kissed him back. Later when he went to her house
he ended up having a discussion with her mother, who wasn't thrilled to
see him. Mom told Bailey that Sarah had been accepted to Brown
University and was out celebrating with her father. Bailey was crushed
that Sarah would be leaving. Sarah called several times and left
messages but Bailey wouldn't return the calls. He wanted to drink very
badly and ended up calling his AA sponsor for support. The next day
Sarah came over to tell him the good news. He said he'd already heard.
He was still upset over her leaving and she realized he thought she was
going to Brown. She was actually talking about Berkeley. As it turns
out she'd received a letter that morning telling her she'd been accepted
to UC Berkeley and was thrilled. Bailey was relieved.
After Bailey heard the news about Julia's marriage he went to Sarah to
talk to her about them getting together again and I believe she told
him that she wanted to be friends.
Okay, that's it. That's all I remember.
