Frazier did well and Picket Fences seemed to beat out NYPD Blue for most
catagories except that Det. Sipiwitz won for best actor.
They should have given Eddie an award. He figures in a lot on Frazier's
success.

| Re: Eddie
At the end of his acceptance speech, Kelsey Grammer said, "Moose this
is for you." (or something similar). I believe "Moose" is Eddie's
"real" name.
Anybody else surprised at the Best Actor in a Drama category? And how
about "Picket Fences" for Best Dramatic Series? I was pleasantly
surprised at both.

| Well I don't watch wither Picket Fences or NYPD Blue because I'm not
home when they're on and I stopped taping long ago because I couldn't
keep up...
One thing I don't understand (anyone agree?) is Candice Bergen winning
again for best actress in a comedy series. Quite frankly, if it wasn't
for Murphy Brown's INCREDIBLE supporting cast the show wouldn't be in
the running. I find CB to be stiff and one level in every episode.
Don't get me wrong, I like the show, but Helen Hunt deserved the award,
not CB.

| Funny, I always felt it was the other way around and that Candice Bergen
carried a rather weak cast with smoltzy writing.
The Mary Tylor More news room would have worked without Mary but the Murphy
Brown news room would die a quick death without Candice.

The WJM newsroom may of worked w/out Mary, but the newsroom was
only a small part of the MTM Show .....

| No, it was a big part of the show, probably over half. The only other regular
part of the show was her apartment. That part consisted mostly of Mary and
Rhoda who spun off into her own series and did fine for several season without
Mary.
Obviously Mary was an important character but my point is that without Mary
there was still a lot of talent, good characters, and good writing. At least
two characters and two other actors went on to star in series of their own. I
doubt we will see that after Murphy folds.
Also, people still remember the other characters from the MTM show long after
it has ended. About the only character people will remember besides Murphy
is Dan Quayle.

| I'm sorry, but how can you say that no one will remember Miles
Silverburg, Corky Sherwood Forrest, Frank Fontana and Jim Dial? Not
to mention Elden!
I'm really not even a regular MB fan but I'll remember them. I think CB
does fine but it's mostly the writing that carries her through her
performance. I don't feel like she has created any kind of 3-dimensional
character for herself at all! She's exactly the same all the time wether
she's happy, or sad, etc.
Oh well.

| Every time I watch the show it's always the same thing. Corny jokes,
predictable petty problems which "wise" 'ol Murphy sorts out.
As for those characters, I never hear anyone talk about them. During MTM you
always heard people talk about Ted, Lou, Rhoda and the others but I never hear
anyone talk about characters on Murphy Brown except for comments about Murphy
her child and Dan Quayle.
Well it's show biz and I guess it's all subjective. Different shows get
talked about in different areas and if you like Murphy Brown and her zany
friends then great. To me they always come across as corny and their problems
are always kind of stupid. I've always felt she works in an office full of
Ted Baxters.

She looked really surprised when it was announced. Perhaps Helen split
the vote with someone else, and Candice edged through.

| Speaking of Helen Hunt and the Mary Tyler Moore show, she once was
in that show, appearing as Murray's teenage daughter. I heard that
on some award show, and they even showed the clip.
Fun fact.

And if you watch Nick at Night on the right night you can
even catch the whole episode :-)
