Mike,
I agree with you, I 've watched it a couple of times. Kellie Martin
and Tyne Daly are very good in it but I'm already a fan of both of
them.

| I watched one episode so far. I am all for "family-shows", but having
read the book recently, I find they are taking liberties in the tv-show
which is probably to be expected. I wasn't as crazy about the show as
I thought I would be - maybe I need to give it a chance. I do know
that I'll probably watch it instead of NBC reruns...sometimes.
Right now there are only 7 episodes in the can. It will be interesting
to see if it is renewed. Kind of like a Dr Quinn and Road Home type of
show. Glad to see something I can allow my kids to watch. Sure miss
the Waltons!!

| I was wondering if folks had watched this show, and what the reaction
was. The Sunday movie which launced it was pretty good. I've watched
one other show and thought it dragged a bit. But, like .2 stated,
maybe I just have to give it a chance -- during rerun time on NBC.
It does, indeed, offer a decent family hour of TV as opposed to a lot
of other stuff that gets broadcast. If the network thinks the show has
merit, I hope it finds another "home" time slot. I'm afraid it will
get killed opposite the Thursday sitcoms.

be renewed, so that takes care of the conflict...

| And ... more news ... apparently, a new CBS series starring Della Reese
is having production problems. No episodes are ready, despite a
scheduled premiere date of early September.
What does this have to do with Christy?
Christy, originally planned as a mid-season replacement, may debut
with new episodes in the fall instead.

From what I heard (on the weekend edition of Entertainment Tonight),
there will be several new episodes this summer. One of them written by
Tyne Daly.

| Has anyone been watching the new episodes of Christy? I think that all three
have been really well done and that Lavar Burton is a great addition to the
cast. One thing that's driving me a little nuts though is the fake accent
that Kellie Martin has started using. I don't remember noticing it in the
earlier episodes.

252.15 | Christy - wednesday nights this summer | TOOK::THOMPSON | | Fri Jul 07 1995 11:07 | 14 |
|
Yes, I'm glad to see that they have brought this show back, even
if it is only for the summer. And the first couple of episodes
have been great - although I'm a little disappointed that Tyne
Daly's roles seem to be shrinking. It seems like she used to
be a central character at the start of the series, and now she
more or less is doing cameo shots....
What do you think about Christy's little love triangle? Who
will she end up with? And yes, I have noticed Martin's accent.
It comes and goes when she remembers, but it does seem unnatural.

I'm also glad that they brought back this series. I hope that
if it does really well that maybe the network will bring it
back as a midseason replacement. I would like her to get
together with the Doctor. I like him.

| I don't know who you're talking about when you use actors' and
actresses' names. Who do you mean?
If you'd read the book, you'd know who she ends up with. Although the
show is not exactly true to the book (the new doctor's assistant was
not in the book, nor Miss Alice's mentor,) it's pretty close in a lot
of ways.
I read this book and did a book report on it when I was in elementary
school. It made such a strong impression on me that I have always
designated my United Way contribution for a tiny county in Appalachia.

| I'm also rooting for Christy to get together with Dr. MacNeil rather than
David. If the show does continue, I suspect it will be a long time before
that gets resolved though. The 'triangle' they've created is just too much
fun to spoil soon.
>> I don't know who you're talking about when you use actors' and

Of the ones mentioned recently:
Kellie Martin -> Christy Huddleston
Tyne Daly -> (Miss) Alice Henderson
Levar Burton -> Daniel Scott

252.19 | good shows! | GRANPA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Tue Jul 11 1995 14:10 | 27 |
| these last episodes have been very good. I always tape this show, not
only so I have a chance to see it, but also sometimes I need to rewind
and replay sections to understand what they have just said...
especially the doctor.
I like the continuity of Miss Alice bringing Dan (Levar Burton) into
the community at the end of one episode and then having something each
week about his making his way into the community. (Though having watched
Levar Burton play Geordi in Star Trek these past seven years, he still
looks funny to me without that character's visor!) And, given the
mentality (blood feuds, grudges held over for generations) and
superstitions of the locals vs. their underlying fairness, there's
plenty of story possibilities. and I love the character that shows up
every once in a while, played by Judy Collins.
One nit: 2 weeks ago when Christy was accused of behaving sinfully late
at night with a man, it was considered wrong for her to be with Dr.
MacNeil, since he is still a married man. And they talked about not
being able to do anything because he was a married man. Then, in this
last episode, she goes to his cabin, cooks him dinner and they have a
table with linen and music. The general feel of that scene is that they
are allowing their feelings to show, especially the doctor, (of course
until he realizes she's just trying to butter him up, to get him to
work with Dan and he gets very mad). So - talk about hot/cold!
But, good show. It's nice to have something with substance to watch.
And new shows in the summer!

252.20 | Dr. MacNeil? | GRANPA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Tue Jul 11 1995 14:18 | 20 |
| Question about Dr. MacNeil... my husband asked about him, while
watching the last episode and I couldn't explain enough to answer.
Is Dr. MacNeil originally from the community?
I thought I remembered something from early on in the seriesabout him
growing-up in the area and was sorta "adopted" by some visitors
(hunting party or something) who then undertook his education,
including medical training, in Scotland. He then came back to the
mountains, his home, to help the people.
If he's from the community - why did he say it took so long for the
people to accept him? Was it accepting him or just his doctoring ...
"...I remember him when he was wearing diapers and he's now going to
give me medicine?..." And why is his accent so heavy and different from
the others if he is from the area? How many years was he away?
thanks!

| Well, now we know for sure, since he said it last night.
Dr. MacNeil is from that area, but went to Scotland to study. Which
makes me wonder, how did he get the accent, since your accent tends to
be set by age 12? (Or so we learned in my AI class.) I got the
impression from the book that he went over at an early age, but that
would be very early. He had the accent in the book, too. (No, I
couldn't hear it, but it was mentioned.)

| Since he was wearing his grandfather's kilt and all, I'd guess that his
family were fairly recent immigrants. Maybe his parents/relatives still
had strong accents and they passed them along to Neil.

| I was really disappointed the way they ended Christy.
I can't believe they left it just hanging like that,
maybe they will have a Thanksgiving show or some kind
of special and have her marry one of them. Does anyone
think that writing to the brass of CBS and requesting
a special will help get one?

| It never even crossed my mind that it might be the last show! Bummer!
Anyway, this wasn't my favorite episode. I wish they'd stick with the
simple stories of Christy, the children, the mountain people in general;
their interactions, Christy's response to them, etc. All this stuff with
Margaret and the tea house seemed superfluous to me. Maybe it's just
a chance to add something a little risque to the mix.
I also wish that the stuff between Christy/Neil/David would be kept a little
more subtle for a while. Once she's forced into a decision, where can they
go from there? Of course, if she does choose, I'm rooting for Neil!

252.27 | ending was a BUMMER! | GRANPA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Mon Aug 07 1995 13:01 | 17 |
| When this episode first started, I thought it might be a "lighter"
episode - with a few chuckles "no shoes or stockings???". But it
definately got serious fast.
I agree that if this was the last episode it's a big 'BUMMER', which
was what I said at the end of the show. I agree with a previous noter
that forcing the involvement issue now doesn't seem right, but if
Margaret stays, there could be some interesting interactions. Certainly
Dr. McNeil will have an internal tug-of-war to deal with.
And, I kept hoping that the cove would come together and help Daniel
rebuild.
Oh well.... I see it isn't on this week. Anyone have any news as to
whether there will be more shows?

Writing to CBS has only been a black hole for me. I wrote 4 times about
"Due South" and never got a reply, except that now they have not had it
on, even for reruns, for 5 weeks in a row. SO you could try writing,
but my experience has been - don't expect a thing after writing.
BTW, I read the book "Christy" once upon a time and in the book she
marries..... ( Spoiler -- I won't tell. :-) )
