Did Ellen play a receptionist, or a real estate agent, on "Open
House", that show with Mary Page Keller and a couple other people
who shall be nameless for the time being because my mind is a
complete blank?

| I saw this last night and it was funny...I did find myself comparing it
to Seinfeld, but it was still funny....
in the Worcester T&G sunday tv pullout there is a write up about the
show...(maybe tonite Ill type it in)
I'll watch tonight too and see if they can keep it up two shows in a
row.

I only caught the last 15 minutes or so of this show yesterday
night. I also completely agree with .0 about this show being just
like Seinfeld. I just kept thinking same lines different show.
Although I have to admit I do like Seinfeld much better.

Yes, it is just like Seinfeld...espally the answering maching part
and the DMV photo...instead of 3 guys and a girl, it's 3 girls
and a guy....so it's like 3's company meets Jerry! :-)
I like comady as much as the next guy...but I dont want it 7 days
a week....stop killing us w/ sitcoms!!!!!
BRING BACK SHOWS LIKE "AGAINST THE GRAIN" a show w/meaing!

Likeness aside, I thought the show was good. As a matter of fact,
so much of the humor seemed like everyday life to me that I found
myself comparing the lines to what my friends and I say to each
other................ wait a minute......... let's think about this;
a show about single secretaries stuck in southern NH -- this just
might be a brainstorm!
Looking forward to tonight's episode!

| Well, I kinda like Ellen D. better than Jerry S., and I watched most of
this show last night. I thought it was kinda funny, although it is
leaping on the "comedies about whatever" Seinfeld-esque bandwagon. The
trend to keep the comic's name the same as their character (Jerry is
Jerry, Ellen is Ellen, Roseanne is Roseanne, Tom is Tom, etc is etc...)
seems to keep on goin' -- you gotta wonder if maybe this is supposed to
be a selling point, or do stand up comedians forget "pretend" names? :)
It was cute, didn't have any precocious kids and for the last point
alone, gets marks. :)
Cheers,

I'm not a fan of sitcoms ("Seinfeld" being the only one I watch and that only
occaisionally and sometimes "Grace Under Fire" because she went to the same
high school as I) but I did like this. It certainly seems to be modeled after
"Seinfeld" but that's ok with me. I like Ellen D. as much if not more than
Jerry S.

| I like Ellen DeGeneres a lot, so I'm wishing her success, a weekly
dose of her humor can't be all bad (I think the major difference
between her and Seinfeld is the degree of sarcasm; the Seinfeld
crew is really mean to each other, I hope Ellen and her friends
are kinder and gentler ;-) ).
The premiere show had a couple of great moments, especially
Ellen's "run-in" with the state trooper ("Can I get fries
with that ticket?"...you had to see it to appreciate it).
Also, her singing "Fill me up Buttercup" was a high point, mostly
because just last week I was singing it with a couple friends
in the cafeteria...Art imitates Life once again!

245.13 | Second show | ANGLIN::SHARROW | If the man wants to box, I'll out box the man... | Sat Apr 02 1994 02:00 | 13 |
| Isn't this her second shot at a show? Didn't she have a show called
something like "It my talk show" or some such nonsense, that ran on Fox
about three or four years ago? The show was about her hosting a talk
show from her house in a small Wisconsin(?) town.
She also does ads for USwest in the midwest (in the role of a pet shop
owner) pushing cellular phones, pagers, and other communication
services.
I only saw a minute of her new show, so I'll hold any comment.

| Watched this for the first time the other night, thought it was ok, but
not comparable to Seinfeld.
It was bothering me as to where I've seen a couple of the other cast
members. I can't for the life of me figure out who the guy is, any
clues? The actress with the short blonde hair finally came to me, she
played Hannah's best friend on Anything But Love.

245.16 | Ellen's Back! | DEMON::DEMON::COURT | Wit happens. | Thu Jul 28 1994 23:49 | 12 |
| Moderators, I guess the time to rename this note is finally upon us. I
saw a promo on ABC last night where Ellen Degeneres is walking back and
forth across her couch cushions, deliriously singing, "I'm on after
Roseanne ... I'm on after Roseanne," to the tune of "Nyah Nyah Nyah
Nyah Nyah Nyah."
"Ellen," formerly "These Friends of Mine," returns Tuesday at 9:30
(8:30 Central, I imagine) on ABC.

| The guy on the show is Arie Gross (sp?) I recognize the name but can't
remember what movies he's been in. I thought the show was pretty funny -
same kind of humour as "Mad about You" and "Seinfeld". Looking forward to
tonights episode - does anybody know if Adam and Ellen are
boyfriend/girlfriend now or in past (like Jerry and Elaine?) TV Guide made
it sound like they live together but I wasn't sure if it is platonic or not.
Thanks.

Oh, how about "House III" or "House IV"? I think it was

| This reminds me more of Three's Company than it does of Seinfeld.
The writing and the comedic timing is just awful. I like Ellen
Degeneres as a stand-up comic, but all she does on this show is
react to everyone elses stupidity-boring. I've watched 3 episodes,and
have crossed this off my list...

| Arye Gross also starred in "The Opposite Sex and How to Live With
Them," or something like that. I don't know if it was ever in
theatres, but it's probably in your video store. I think he resembles
Julian Lennon.
I'm hot and cold on this show. There was one episode where Ellen,
succumbing to pressure from her mother, bought her boss a baby gift.
Ellen had one of her classic, run-on-sentence monologues where she just
kept getting herself in deepr and deeper. I watched the tape of that
episode several times - and watched that scene even more.
Another episode, where Ellen went to her high school reunion, was
extrememly contrived. I didn't laugh once.
I like her enough to keep writing.
When the show returns with new episodes in the fall, I imagine we'll
see some changes, including, I hope, the mysterious disappearance of
the brunette friend.

night? Any discussion? Any purpose stated? It was a take-off, right?

Laura Dern was both outstanding and breath taking as always.

| Yep, saw it. Enjoyed it. But then I've always liked this show.
I'm not sure you can really compare it to a 'regular' episode
what with all the hype around it, but it had some classic
moments. I had fun trying to pick out the guest stars. The
only ones I couldn't figure out were the cashier during the
dream sequence, and the guitarist/waiter in the coffehouse,
if indeed that was a celebrity star, rather than some random
guest star. I thought at first she was kd lang, as I saw that
part before the dream sequence (kids/dinner, caught on tape)
but then I realized upon seeing the earlier parts on tape, that
kd lang was only in the dream sequence, where it seemed everyone
was a celebrity. But that cashier???
It will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Next week
Ellen in three-D?? Where do I get my glasses?
