| Thank you Thank you Thank you..... for getting rid of Melanie Hudsell - it's
not bad enough that the show has gotten pretty lame (with the exception of
usually 1 or maybe 2 skits) but she was PATHETIC. Now if we could only get
rid of the woman who does Queen Latifah and the NBC page - can't remember
her name, but she is BAAAD. Why can't this show ever get any decent women?

| Melanie Hudsell did do a GREAT takeoff on Tori Spelling, the ultimate
valley-girl.
The woman who does Queen Latifah is named Ellen Cleghorn, and she can
be funny with the right material.
I forgot to mention that Julia Sweeney (aka Pat) and Rob Schneider
(the guy in the copy room) have also left the show.
The reason SNL has trouble keeping female talent is bad writing
(too many bathroom jokes) and there just aren't enough skits to go
around. At least that's what Julia Louis-Dreyfuss said in a recent
interview.

| It's not just the women. Many actors see SNL as a stepping stone to something
bigger. Once Chevy Chase made the big time it set a trend.
I'm curious as to where Phil Heartman went. From what I heard the way he
got the job was by convincing Loran ... (what the heck is his name) ... that
he would not use SNL for a stepping stone and that he was there to stay. Of
course he did stay for a very long time, probably longer than anyone else.

the White House, voice over "and now, President Bill Clinton." The
"motivational-speaker-living-in-a-van-down-by-the-RIVER!" (Chris

course; then they cut to the exterior of the White House again,
introduced Bill Clinton again, and... one by one, members of the cast
tried out for the part! They were all terrible, of course, and finally
the black guy (Tim Meadows?) tried out--actually he wasn't too bad!
But after a sentence or two he interrupted himself and said "I'm not

especially liked the opening where the camera angle was down at Travolta's

He was also wearing a cool in-ear wireless monitor.

skits this past show that weren't funny to begin with were drawn
out for a very long time (like the Johnny Carson as a lawyer for

What I have noticed this year so far is that they really aren't
doing many shows. Seems they are doing only 1 or 2 live shows
in a row and then run reruns for 1 or 2 weeks afterwards (ex.

Is this because they have such a HUGE cast (and bigger names like

from shows that contained the last bunch of cast members. The ratings for
the new season must've been so bad they need to pull it for a while to
re-work it. It does need work. Even with the last cast, there just wasn't
much funny stuff. Even the news was getting pretty lame. I notice the
names of the writers that are credited at the end are pretty new. A few

Did you really hear they pulled it for a while? If not, then it's
not unusual for SNL to only have 2 or 3 consecutive live shows

| Anyone catch the episode on May 18th 1996?
The one with Jim Carey & musical guest SoundGarden!
It was pretty good IMHO, but SNL is definately sliding down hill.
It was even pretty hard for Jim to keep me laughin', now I'm not sayin
the writers are to blame, nor the comedians, but something sure ain't
comin' together.
As for SG...they were great...and I think Chris' voice is getting
better!

233.96 | Brilliant performance as Jimmy Stewart | NETCAD::HERTZBERG | History: Love it or Leave it! | Tue May 28 1996 14:17 | 7 |
| I had no idea that Jim Carey did a Jimmy Stewart impression. His
appearance on the "Joe Pesci show" (which is always a good skit to
begin with) was one of the funniest things they've aired in years. SNL
certainly takes alot of cricicism lately, a good portion of which is
well-deserved, IMHO, but they still hit the spot once in a while, and I
think this season just ended was a step up compared to some recent years.

| I've only seen a few episodes this year, but The Joe Pesci Show and the
cheerleaders are two very funny skits.

233.98 | Only if Jim Carrey becomes a regular | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | The moment is a masterpiece | Thu May 30 1996 14:04 | 21 |
| I have NO IDEA why but... I thought the "three hip guys" skit was
hilarious.
Obviously in the line of descendency (and this sure is "descending"
rapidly) from the "Wild & Crazy guys" thing with Steve Martin.
Some of my friends and I have this thing going where all start bobbing
our heads in sync while wearing that enormous grin.
It was the best ep of SNL in quite awhile but... with Jim Carrey...
what did you expect. I think his WORST work is "Ace Ventura".
He's much better at those kinda SNL/In-Living-Color skits.
Oh yeah... I also loved the opening monologue:
"Where I come from minimum wage is $20 million but...
we somehow make ends meet."
;-)

233.99 | How much Pamela Lee? | NEWVAX::BUCHMAN | Rosalie's Uncle | Mon Apr 21 1997 14:10 | 26 |
| At the risk of identifying myself with the baser instincts of the male
gender, I was wondering ...
Did Pamela Lee really take off all her clothes during the monologue on
Saturday night??? She came out in shorts, bikini top and jacket, then
took off the jacket and told the audience that her husband told her she
would feel less nervous in front of a live audience if they were to
imagine her naked. Then she reconsidered, and said maybe what he meant
was that she should actually be naked. So she took off her top and
pants, during which time the TV monitors blurred her crucial areas,
just like they do on news reports when they blur a person's face to
protect their identity.
I don't think she would strip all the way ... on the one hand, what if
there were kids in the audience? ... on the other hand, if they warned
potential audience members that "parental discretion is advised ..
Pamela Lee will be naked", you run the serious danger of a stampede
(there go those baser instincts again ...) Does anyone know for sure?
SNL has some pretty good skits nowadays. My wife and I both like the 2
or 3 nightclubbing dudes; the cheerleader skits are typically funny;
and Goat-boy is pretty good too. Not the glory days of
Chase/Ackroyd/Belushi, nor yet Murphy/Piscipo; but not too shabby.
Thanks,
Jim

| Don't forget the Mary Margaret skits - they are hilarious! I
especially like the week where Rosie O'Donnell was guest host. They
did a skit where MM was trying out for the Christmas solo for her
Catholic choir. Rosie was the conductor nun and Penny Marshall was a
hard-talkin piano playing nun. Whitney Houston was one of the other
students. Very funny!

233.101 | i'm guessing she was... | QUARRY::petert | rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty | Mon Apr 21 1997 16:58 | 8 |
| Whether or not she (Pamela Lee) really did get naked, the network was
certainly concerned that she would. This is the first time that I know
of that the show was tape delayed. It usually starts 11:30 sharp. When the
news stretched on, I was wondering what was going on. But by delaying by
7 to 10 minutes, they allowed the network the time to blur out details
that would have been deemed inappropriate.

The news stretched on because the baseball game ran late....
and btw, the show is always tape delayed a few seconds to give
the network sensor time to push the mute button (though that didn't
appear to work with the snl news the week before last)

| According to the Globe she was naked. NBC did a digital scramble of the
sensitive areas.
Actually I don't believe she was naked. From what you could see took off
the purple fluffy jacket and her pink top and skirt but it was pretty obvious
that she didn't take off the knee high silver boots.
Oddly enough the rest of the show was pretty good. She's not bad at comedy.

I saw it too, and I don't think she took it all off either. If she did,
there would have been *MUCH* more audience screaming. As it was, there was
only a moderate number of woops and hollers. Plus, with Tommy Lee
backstage, I'd think he'd object.
I must admit, SNL has improved greatly since last year.

Somehow, I really don't think he minds all that much...
