217.0. "Birdland" by SUFRNG::WSA038::SATTERFIELD (Close enough for jazz.) Sat Jan 15 1994 06:19

What do you think of this new series? It looks pretty good to me based on the
two episodes that have aired so far. But then I'm willing to watch pretty much
anything with Brian Dennehey.

I love it. It reminds me of St. Elsewhere

I didn't really get to see the first one all the way through but I
love Brian Dennehy (sp?) too so I'm sure I'll be watching.

    anything!

Could someone please tell me what happened on last weeks
show? My friend messed up setting her VCR and cut it
off a half hour early.

Thanks in advance,

217.5I'll try ...SSGV02::GRANTMargo DTN 264-3705Fri Feb 04 1994 04:4323
Well, I'll try, but someone else will probably have to expand.

As I recall, there were two main stories:

1) The brother of Mr. ___ (the guy who watches all the TV in the day room and
sees conspiracies in everything) showed up and wanted to take him back to
Minnesota. Mr. ___ clearly didn't want to go and kept saying that wasn't
really his brother. Nice interaction with the black nurse in this story.
In the end, the brother realized that the best thing was to leave Mr. ___
there with his friends and doctors.

2) A young cop was having realtime fantasies about shooting his partner.
They were so real to him that he'd check his gun to see if the chambers
were all loaded. He had occasion to meet the Brian Dennehey character
and brought the situation up with him in hypothetical terms (my friend
has this problem ...). Then the partner was killed in an alleyway
shootout, and the cop became convinced _he'd_ done it. He tried to reach
out to the doc, but then started fantasizing that he was shooting the doc,
so he ran off. Doc catches on, confronts him in the original alleyway,
and convinces him that he can help.

Help, someone!

This part was not cleared up very well - the young cop visioned killing
his partner, although the partner ended up wounded from a bullet they
indicated that it was a bullet from the perps gun, not the cop and he
    didn't die from the wound.

I read this morning that yet another news magazine type show is going to
replace Birdland. That didn't take long.

Birdland is back! Only for two episodes though, one shows tonight.
