I use to watch all the older Columbo shows and I still catch a lot of the reruns but I haven't watched many of the MOTW Columbos. I love his style - or some would say - lack there of :^} and quite a few of the snippets from his shows are stuck in my mind. I also enjoyed the way the writers had him stalking about his wife, making her out to be a warm sensitive yet intelligent person who sometimes helped him solve a case Jt

A&E will have an 11-hour "Columbo" marathon on July 4th. Not sure of start/end times nor the length of episodes yet. I was off last week and happened to catch a 2-hour episode that was directed by Nicholas Colasantro ["Coach" from "Cheers"].

I saw one Monday that was directed by Steven Spielberg. The bad guy was Jack Cassidy, the 3rd time I've seen him play a "Columbo" bad guy. I've noticed 2 repeating guest stars so far: Jack Cassidy [3] William Shatner [2] And if I'm boring you with all this useless info, let me know and I might stop. But probably not. 8^) But I DO like watching "older" shows and trying to pick out the stars of today from when they were either in their prime or just starting out in whatever roles they could get.

John, you wait 3 months to ask what it was about? Do you know how many "Columbo" episodes I've seen in the past 3 months? I'd figure about 40. 8^) But anyways, if I remember correctly it would have been the one starring George Wendt [Norm from "Cheers"] who was in a bit of trouble with the mob.

I found an epsiode listing for the original series. As far as I can tell it's complete, and the only ones I haven't seen are 1,2 and 14. Below is the Columbo episode guide. Well, the Columbia House Video Library apparently had me in mind when they decided to add "Columbo" to their choices, so I went ahead and signed up for the set. I can cancel at any time, so I definitely don't have to buy them all. But yesterday I receieved, as I figured, the pilot episode titled "Diagnosis: Murder" from 1968. Of course, I had to watch it last night since I've never seen it before, and I have to say it's very possibly the best of them all. And I hope that the next 1 is the 2nd episode, or the "2nd pilot" from 1972 or so, which I also haven't seen yet. Then I can cancel, which will be a total cost of about $30 for both episodes.

I just watched that episode a couple of weeks ago and have to disagree about it being the best. Columbo couldn't break the case on the evidence and only got the murderer because of the girlfriend. Later shows refined the story lines to the point of having clever deductive reasoning by Columbo. Sadly, the last few episodes must of run out of good ideas. ej

What do you mean you just watched it a couple of weeks ago? 8^) Where'd you see it? And BTW, he DID crack the case, but had no proof of same. This was the 1st of a few instances of "beat him at his own game" to trip up the suspect. I prefer this method to his "conveniently finding clues to easily deduce the identity of the suspect".
