210.0. "NBC's SNL - Problem with 1/8/94 broadcast?" by TOOK::DELBALSO (I (spade) my (dog face)) Tue Jan 11 1994 02:40

I was wondering whether or not anyone else noticed this problem with 1/8/94's
NBC Saturday Night Live program broadcast -

About 2 minutes into the Weekend Update segment the sound was masked
over by what appeared to be the sound from an Empty Nest episode. This
continued almost to the end of the segment.

I couldn't tell whether it was an NBC problem, a WBZ (local affiliate)
problem, or my cable company's problem.

Did anyone else experience this?

    Jack,

You are not the only one. I have Warner Cable in Nashua, an the same
thing happened! I assumed that it was a WBZ problem, but can not be
    sure.

I don't have cable, and had the same problem, so I think it must have
    been a WBZ problem.

I was watching the Today show this AM and during a interview with a
lawyer all of a sudden we were watching a some afternoon soap...it
lasted about 1 minute then it switched back to the Today show...very
odd ! so maybe its WBZ or its NBC ?

I was watching the Todayshow also today and the same thing happend

I saw the same thing on SNL. It was weird. At 1st I thought it was part of
the act, it's not unlike SNL to do wacky things. Kevin Neland was just starting
a "Subliminal" commentary when it happened and I thought it was suppose to be
some sort of twist on the subliminal idea but then it went on after the
commentary had ended.

I guess it's not cable and we've got it tracked back at least to WBZ, did
anyone see this happen on any other NBC affiliate? If not, did anyone see
a Weekend Update on another NBC affiliate that was not interrupted?

  Curious,
  George

Must been an east coast thing because out here in so Cal
we got the whole boring news update. "Empty Nest" excerpts
would have made things alot more interesting.

It wasn't only WBZ, because about 30 seconds into it I switched to
Channel 10 in Providence (WJAR?) and got the same Empty Nest audio
    feed.

I bet it was NBC, and they must've wised up and fixed it before the
Pacific Time broadcast (it doesn't go live to the west coast; at least
my friends in San Francisco don't see it til 10:30 [I think] local
    time).

I also noticed the problem. I switched to channel 10 and it
was also screwed up. I then checked back and 4 was ok but
    		10 still had the problem.

What did you think of the SNL show that night? I like Jason
Patric but the skits they had him do were so lame. I felt
    		sorry for the guy.

I thought the whole show (at least what I saw was lame).
Even the Linda Richards skit was not up to par. Could
possibly have something to do with Richard Simmon's
    singing, I suppose.

I missed some of the monolog. Who is Jason Patric?

Jason Patric = famous for being dumped by Julia Roberts oh yes - he is
also a movie actor - starred in "Rush" (can't think of others)

The rumor I heard was that Julia Roberts ran to Jason Patric when she
    split with Kiefer Sutherland.

Jason is also co-starring in the movie Geronimo which is out right now
    in theatres.

I live in Ohio and watch at the same time you East-coasters do. I did
not exprience any problems during Weekend Update except trying to stay
    awake!

Richard Simmons on Coffee Talk?! I couldn't believe it, that man
should not be allowed on television!

Poor Jason Patric, the sketches he was in were terrible, namely the Mr.
    Intense bit.

    Cheers,

I thought the same thing Laura. I think Jason is a great actor it
would of been nice if they gave him some decent material to use
    on SNL.

Anyone have the scoop on Jason such as how old he is and if he is
working on any new projects. I never see Jason mentioned in any
of the tabloids. I wonder why he's not in the limelight like all
the other young actors around his age. I do know that he has his own
movie company called FLEECE. Can anyone add anything else?
