208.0. "THE WILD, WILD WEST" by TNPUBS::NAZZARO (Gentleness overcomes strength) Thu Jan 06 1994 06:35
TNT has acquired the rights to the classic 60's TV western that wasn't
really a western, THE WILD WILD WEST, starring macho shrimp Robert
Conrad as agent James West and the late great Ross Martin as his
partner, Artemus Gordon. To celebrate the show coming to TNT, they
showed a 10+ hour marathon Sunday with all the episodes from the
series that featured the evil genius, Dr. Miguelito Loveless. For
the life of me I can't remember the name of the actor who played
Loveless, something Dunn maybe, but he was spectacular in his role
as the misguided wacko. I've only seen the first episode so far, but
it was in black and white and featured Jaws himself, Richard Keel,
as Lovelss' right hand man. Interesting to see those two actors
together, with at least three feet difference in their height.
Anyway, that first episode was grerat, and I look forward to seeing
all the others.

| The marathon was heaps o' fun, including some interview segments - all
with Conrad, as Martin and Dunn are no longer with us (though I'd
hoped they would dig up (pardon!) some archival footage of interviews
with them). Some of the elements of the show held up very well, and I
enjoyed all the episodes I watched, but other facets of it were a bit
too silly or predictable for my taste nowadays. [I still love the
gadgetry, though it's often very silly indeed; assembling the blowtorch
from components tucked into our hero's boot-heels was a bit over the
top even for them. I wonder if MacGyver ever gave credit to West and
Gordon as pioneer gadgeteers?]

208.4 | TWO FATHER'S RETURN | DECWET::HAYNES | | Sat Jan 15 1994 07:35 | 12 |
| A note on Robert Conrad, tonight on ch5 (at least in Seattle) at 9pm is
a sequel movie to the 1985 (?) movie Two Fathers Justice starring
Robert Conrad and Gearge Hamilton, the sequel tonight is called
Two Fathers Return. In the origional movie, Conrad plays a hard worker
whos daughter marries rich businessman Hamilton's son... the son and
daughter are brutally murdered C & H hunt the killer down and bring
them to justice. In Two Fathers Return, the killer escapes from prison,
and the two fathers go after him.
I liked the first movie, will probably record this one too.
