invaded by REAL HUMAN BEINGS who are less than perfect. Looking for
silence and privacy, cherishing it even when the setting is less than

I liked the second show better than the first. I hope it takes off.

Even if they did grow up into the men they are, in spite of

| I think I see a pattern forming. The 1st 2/3rds of the show are small labeled
out takes that are side splitting role on the floor funny. During the last
1/3rd they drop the signs announcing the scenes and try to get serious but end
up being smaltzy with some embarrassing type humor thrown in for balance.
If they stayed with the humor and didn't try to take themselves seriously
it would be much better.
Still overall it's a fun show,

| Well, preliminary reports from Nielsen say that "Frasier" got
hammered by "Home Improvement" on Tuesday night. HI had a 22 percent
share, while Frasier had 15 percent. Ditto for the rest of the
lineup. ABC was a clear winner, with CBS distant 3rd.
It's too bad, because I thought the show (based very loosely on
The Bridges of Madison County) was as funny as always.
Synopsis follows Form Feed.
Many years ago, while sitting at Cheers Frasier had told a stranger a
story about his first love affair with an "older woman."
Now 25 years later, Frasier finds that this stranger has written a
"romance novel" about the affair
with turgid prose and infinite detail. The book
(Slow Tango in Seattle) has become a huge hit with the women in Seattle
(including Roz and Daphne.) Frasier decides to find his "first love"
to put finality to that part of his life.
There was also a great bit with Eddie. After getting a lecture from
his father about how people complicate their lives, ("Look at Eddie,
all he needs is an old sock to be happy...") every time Frasier least
expects it, he turns around and there's Eddie with an old sock...

| A summary of 10/4's show: (spoilers ho!)
Basically, the plot concerned Daphne and Fraiser commiserating about
their love life, or lack of. Fraiser decided that he'd try to find
somebody to set Daphne up with. Consulting with Roz, Fraiser managed
to insult her (implying that Roz's taste in men wasn't suitable for
Daphne -- as if Fraiser held Daphne to some higher light :). Niles, of
course, was aghast at Daphne being set up with anybody.
At any rate, Roz tried to suggest some guys, but Fraiser turned them
down. Then he met the new Station Manager (Tom, I believe), who's
single, handsome and looking (and having recently moved back to the
States from England). Fraiser, with visions of the Perfect Match,
invited Tom over for dinner, not telling Tom that it was a setting up
effort.
Tom and Roz then talked, where Tom made it quite clear that Tom thought
Fraiser was asking him over to dinner because Fraiser wanted to date
Tom. Roz was about to inform Tom that no, Fraiser was quite straight
and narrow, but then Fraiser managed to upset her again and she just
let it all slide.
The rest of the show concerned the whole misunderstanding about just
why Tom was there -- Fraiser inadvertantly making comments that
furthered his dilemma (unbeknownst to him, of course), poor Daphne
being quite taken with Tom (he was very cute), Niles being huffy and
overprotective until he realized who Tom was there to "date", etc.
Things were cleared up at the end, of course, but it was pretty funny.
Hope that helps,
kim

Another point (behind a spoiler):
When ever the new Mgr asked Niles if he objected to him dating his
brother and Niles answer was a quite/firm NO .. I was rolling!!!
This was in response to Niles being rather snippy all night. Frasier
questioned it too, saying it was because Niles didn't like that Frasier
had set Daphne up with Tom. Niles' reply was very truthful:
"No, I think he is the perfect man for Daphne to be set up with."
And at the end, when Tom was leaving and trying to figure out who was
and wasn't gay, he couldn't believe that Niles was straight. His
question was "you mean that 'Maris' he's been referring to all night
isn't a guy?". Frazier's response: "the jury's still out on that one."
Very funny show. But the Home Improvements that I've been taping have
been very funny too. Especially when Jill went to the auto body shop
to get her book out of the car and interacted with the owner.

| Last night's episode was funny -
General overview - niles moves into a posh new apartment
building and tries to impress new neighbors with a dinner party. He's
has to part with the dog, since the place allows pets, but not cats and
dogs, but he gets himself a cocketiel. The night of the party the bird
attaches himself to Nile's head in a fit of panic and the rest of the
evening is spent with niles trying to get the bird off, and staying in
the kitchen because he's too embarrassed about having a bird on his
head.
funny scene was where Frasier and the Dad are trying to convince Niles
the dog is just a substitute for Marris. "stand her up on her back
legs, drop 10 pounds, put on a channel suit and it's marris" and the
pudding cup on the dog's head ... "remember the pill box hat marris
wore to mumblysomething's wedding" which finally makes Niles see the
resemblance.
the other interesting item - is the same joke shows up in this show and
in the Home Improvement show (same time, same day, different channel).
the joke about winston churchhill/some woman/cup of tea with poison. I
probably wouldn't have noticed it but I tape frasier and watch it right
after home improvement. I picture some lunch/party with a bunch of
writers and they all hear the joke and figure a way to incorporate it
in their respective shows! some coincidence of being on the same
night!
show continues to be good.

| I watched this episode again over the weekend and some more lines which
had me giggling...
Opening scene with Daphne and Father - Daphne mentions the recliner has
another rip, father asks for his repair kit, she throws him a large
roll of electrical tape. He's taping it up when Frasier comes out of
the bedroom area and comments on how "dad, it's trying to die, why
don't you just let it die in peace". There may have even been a comment
about putting the chair out of it's misery. The father, having finished
taping, sits in the chair and comments how he has dreams where frasier
is having that same conversation, but it's in a hospital and it's the
father being talked about. Frasier makes a comment something like -
"don't be silly dad. That would never happen"...pause... "I have
medical power of attorney, it would be easier" (said in that droll
voice frasier uses when he's being funny but part serious.)
Niles stops in at Frasier's apartment with the dog.
"We just happened to be in the neighborhood getting a pedicure and
a seaweed wrap. Of course the pedicure was for..."
Father, sitting in chair interrupts with "Stop. There's no way to
finish that sentence which will make me proud"
Niles describing his new pet to daphne, frasier, father as he walks
them into his new kitchen:
"She's exotic, she only eats every other day and she's so white she's
almost blue"
Father: "now I'm getting scared. That's what he said just before he
introduced us to Marris"
When the cocketiel is stuck on Nile's head"
Niles - "I can't pull it off"
Frasier - "If you could pull off the jaunty barret at brunch last week,
you can pull anything off"
I know out of context these aren't as funny, but the whole episode just
seemed to have me giggling. Good show

I thought it was duct tape (the "universal" tape for fixing
anything :-).
I didn't find this episode overly funny. Especially after the
TV ads said this was going to be the funniest one in a long time.
I find the two episodes where the farce is based on mis-understandings
(deliberate and accidental) to be the funniest. The funniest two
Fraisers so far in my book are:
The episode where Fraiser's new boss is gay and Fraiser doesn't
know it and has the boss over for dinner. The boss on the other
hand believes Fraiser knows he's gay and that it's a date.
The episode where Daphne's old boyfriend comes to visit and
Daphne pretends to be married to Niles, and the lies compound
from there.
Both of those episodes had my laughing laughing out loudly. Something
quite rare for me when watching TV.

| > Fraiser is on Wed this time, I very excited. I hope they keep it their.
Usually when a show is aired on it's non-normal night, they
call is "a very special [the-show's-name-here]", which usually
means it's a rerun they are using as a filler.
Looking in the TV guide it shows that Fraiser is on in it's
normal time slot tonight (Tues, 9pm) and on Wed at 8pm.
At least one, if not both, of those shows is bound to be
a rerun (unlike the old days, the networks don't appear to
notify TV guides as often when I show is a rerun). The
name of the episodes according to my TV guide (called "TV Week")
has tonight's episode named "Mixed Doubles", and Wed's "special"
episode is named "Head Game".
> Their is absoulty *nothing* on Wednedsys that I like.
Not a "Wings" *or* "News Radio" fan?

Well if it's a repeat, it wont matter to me since I have not seen 1
show this year. As for New Raido, I'd rather pull out my nose hairs.
Wings, I used to love wings - I think it's time for it be put to rest.
I still watch it from time to time but it's not the same.
FWIW: I don't tape Fraiser because I tape to meny things as it is, I
really don't want to tape one more. And Hubby puts up with me watching
General Hospital everyday and Melrose on Mondays, so I figure if he
wants to watch Tim, he can watch Tim :-)

| If you think Wednesday is a TV wasteland try The Larry Sanders Show, 10:00pm on
HBO. IMHO one of the best shows on TV.

I get HBO on my TV also, Mr. nit-picker.
If someone suggests that I watch "The Flintstones" on WLVI [Boston
56] should I pipe up that my TV has a hard time receiving UHF stat-
ions so the information is somewhat useless?

166.74 | great mystery show | UFP::BOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Mon Apr 28 1997 14:45 | 12 |
| Last week's episode - where the radio station is putting on a 1/2hr
horror/murder mystery show, with frasier directing it - was a real HOOT!
didn't get a chance to watch it until this weekend and laughed through
the whole thing. Once again, they gave Niles the best lines! When the
players started to mutiny and the plot of the radio show had to keep
changing... niles and frasier were great.
Lately watching this show, I feel that Niles has almost become the lead
with frasier as his supporting actor.
