110.1 | Not too bad | CSLALL::RAPAGLIA_NM | Take the Leap! | Thu Apr 29 1993 04:10 | 7 |
| I think it's on Saturdays. At least it was this past weekend.
I didn't think it was half bad. It reminds me of the old cop/detective
shows from the 80's. It's better than a lot of shows that are on these
days.

I saw the pilot, it seemed like a typical Chuck Norris film, enjoyable but
nothing great. I'll probably watch when it's convenient. The series seems
to be based on Norris's film _Lone Wolf McQuade_ which has a terrific scene;
Chuck has been rendered unconcious and is placed in his four wheel vehicle
(complete with jet engine!) and is then buried, vehicle and all, by bulldozers.
He shortly regains conciousness, chugs most of a bottle of Pearl beer (refuses
to drink anything else), pours the rest over his head and floors the gas
peddle. Cut to a shot outside where his compatriots are coming under fire
now that he is safely buried. The earth over his "grave" begins to stir as
the music swells. Suddenly the vehicle bursts out of the ground and Chuck
leaps out with guns blazing to save his friends. Great scene, the self
parody is just right.
BTW, I once met Norris about 11 or 12 years ago while I was judging in a karate
tournement. He seemed like a nice guy.

| Well, I don't have any experience with Chuck Norris films, but I was willing
to give this half a chance ...
And I'm planning to dodge this whenever possible. The acting (Chuck's *and*
the lady (DA?)) is painfully bad, IMO, and I find the violent fights excessive.

| The Production company ran out of money after 3 episodes, CBS had
ordered 6. Also USA Today has stated, that this show was one of the
big suprises of the spring, and CBS has said they will probably bring
it back in the fall.

| The acting wasn't so bad, but the writing was awful! With one or two
good writers this show could have had a chance.
I've met Chuck a few times. Once in DC for Veteran's Day, his brother
was killed in VietNam and he was visiting the Wall.
A few years ago he was head of some committee trying to get folks to
visit disabled vets in VA hospitals. He toured the country visiting,
and he was in Bedford, MA for a day.

Quoted without permission from The Atlanta Constitution:
"His CBS series "Walker, Texas Ranger" is set to shoot new episodes in
August. (It's been on hiatus since its financing from Italy dried up due
to a government crisis.)"
A government crisis?

shows for the past season. Must be 'cause there were only three
episodes,huh? Would've finished high!

| Hi,
I'm confused and amused.
Confused: Why was Walker on tv last night? (I think the Nanny was,
too, I'm really confused)
Amused: The plot last night was such a direct take-off of The River
Wild that it was amazing. Did anyone else see this?

110.17 | Just filling in timeslots | WMOIS::LYONS_S | | Fri Apr 19 1996 13:08 | 24 |

Rachel,
My guess is that because of the fewer new episodes of shows filmed each
"season", they have to move things around in order to fill up time
slots.
I caught the ending 25 mins or so and I have to admit, I thought the
episode was pretty lame. Especially the ending...comment after
formfeed for those who may have taped yet not watched.
The ending was absolutely hogwash.
1) Why the heck was that pulley system set up there and
2) Like he would ever be able to hit the guy right on target under
those conditions!
This was too unbelievable for me. Not to mention....I really thought
the people who were on the show couldn't act their way out of a paper
bag.
Not to sound too harsh, but.....it just didn't work for me.
