97.0. "How'd They Do That?" by MILPND::J_TOMAO () Thu Mar 11 1993 23:53

    Well we caught the first show last night and found it pretty
    entertaining and informative.  My sweetie could have done with out the
    Billy Ray Cyrus portion but all in all we stayed tune and look forward
    to the next episode.
    
    Its been described as a cross between "Thats Incredible" and "Mr
    Science" and one of the host Pat (something from Entertainment Tonight)
    said that there would be no two-headed woman or 5 legged-animals on the
    show, just things that make you wonder "How'd they Do That?"
    
    Last night the showed how Reebock filmed the the guy jumping from a
    plane then 'surfing', a commercial where 'killer whales swim through an
    airplane', The Billy Ray Cyrus Marketing Coup of the decade, how the
    police and Federal investigators found out the Pan Am disaster over
    Lockerbie Scotland was solved and a guy who was born without arms, how
    he is a successful business man (I remember an episode of Thats
    Incredible where they featured a woman like him who could also drive
    and cook and care for her children) I might have skipped a feature or
    two.
    
    I liked it and it does look promising

	It was pretty good. They also showed ho they put the pear in a bottle of pear brandy. Agreed that the worst segment was how a record company takes a no talent never will be and a lousy song and markets it into a million dollar star and a huge profitable record... John

	RE: .1 It was on Wedenesday from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. on the same channel Home Improvement was one (sorry forgot) They will be doing a special show this coming Saturday at 8:00 p.m. but now I'm not sure what night they will stay on. Oh yeah the pear trick, I kinda guessed it before they showed it. I said it grew in there - thinking it was able to grown in water then when grown they substituted water for Brandy. The trees looked funny with bottles all over them :^) Worth a peek Joyce

	For those of us who missed it, how do they do those things? I'd be especially interested in hearing about the guy skate boarding or bicycling out of the plane. George

	The guy jumped from a plane with a board (looked like a skate board with no wheels) strapped to his feet. because of the updrafts and ait pressure the guy could do all kinds of acrobatics before having plenty of time to pull his chute. In order to film this a second guy had a scpecially designed helmet camera and he was wearinga jumpsuit that had material, like wings, that when spread slowed his descent (sp) so he could have time to photogragh the guy on the board. 	re: .0 They won't have any 2-headed women or 5-legged animals, but they will use a man with no arms. So basically, don't bother applying if you have any extra appendages, but if you're missing a few, give the producer a call.
