87.0. "Great -- and favorite -- commercials" by DPDMAI::POGAR (Resident Movie Critic & Costner Fan) Sat Feb 27 1993 04:22

    I'd like to start a topic on *great* commercials, since we already have
    one on the worst commercials.

    My vote, and I hope a lot of other folks, too, is for the Taster's
    Choice commercials with the British couple whose romantic encounters
    always leave the viewer guessing what will happen next. My mother and I
    actually look forward to these commercials. They're interesting,
    intriguing and extremely tasteful. My vote for the best commercial on
    TV right now.

    I also have a request. Are there any noters here who are from England?
    There is now a novel, called LOVE IS GOLD, by Suzannah James, that is
    based on these two TV-commercial characters. The paperback is only
    available in England, and right now there are not plans to release it
    in the U.S.

    I would like to obtain a copy of the book. If anyone is willing to get
    one for me and mail it to my home address, please SEND/AUTHOR, and I
    will SEND/MONEY. Or if you want to trade something that I can get for
    you here, I would really appreciate it.

    **********

    Any other "great" commercials out there?

    Catherine

    And as another tidbit about the Rice Krispies jingle....it was written
    by Barry Manilow. He wrote a number of jingles way back when.

    A current funny commerical is yet another in the Energizer Bunny vs.
    Villians "series". This time, the Bunny takes on Darth Vader. Yeah,
    the guy from Star Wars. :)

    Apparantly, Darth doesn't use Energizer batteries in his light sabre.
    Too bad....  ;)

87.3The Copper ToppersCRISTA::MAYNARDThe Front Row KidWed Nov 23 1994 04:459
    Who,(or should I say) what are the Copper-Toppers ? This is the
    commercial for Duracel batteries that takes place at a family cookout
    where somebody slips the obnoxious aunt the wrong kind of battery and
    she goes face-down in her plate while everybody laughs.
    They look too realistic to be
    claymation like Gumby but not realistic enough to be
    computer-animation.

                                                           Jim

    I believe they are real people under a ton of make up. Pretty well
    done (relative to what the commericial is trying to convey), even if
    the kid is a brat.

    I also think they are real people. But They look like they are
    wearing hard to move in costumes and not so much on the make up. I
    think the only real skin showing is around there mouth and
    maybe there eyes.

    It's cool anway you cut it.

    For some reason I like the new Cadilac Catera (sp) commercials. I love
    the one that says

    "Take it for a ride and stop on a mime" :-)

    and at the end of the all the ads, they talk about a lease option

    "Lease a Catera" --- "Who is Lisa Catera"

    I just get me going. :-)

My current favorites, guaranteed to get me giggling, are:

- The car commercial (brand??) where the junkyard dogs are waiting to give
  chase and the little one says "Come to papa!"

- The Nissan commercial where the dog gets the owner to take him for a ride
  in the truck in the middle of the night; they keep picking up other dogs
  until there isn't room for the man. "Dogs LOVE trucks!"

    Up here in Canada, we have a beer commercial for Molson Canadian.

    It has a guy who we find out later is a trapper walking in the
    wilderness. He spies a fish and a bottle of berr in the snow. He picks
    up the bottle of beer and a wooden net falls on him. Out of the snow
    pops a beaver laughing hesterically and the music "no more mister nice
    guy"(do not know the group or title)

    It was funny and good.

    	Alice Cooper did that song originally, and Megadeth did a cover for
    	the movie "Shocker".

    re: -1
    I downloaded from AOL the .wav file for "great googley moogley" and
    loaded it in my winnt\media\sounds directory.

    Whenever WinNT sends me certain exclamation messages, my PC exclaims
    "Great Googley Moogley!"

    Well, I tried sending the .wav file through VaxMail but it seemed to
    get corrupted. I will have a new MSExchange account on DIGITAL1 as
    of next week (username DSorrells) - it should be easy to send to
    anyone with an Exchange account.

    Feel free to drop me a line - I'm willing to try sending it.

    Or you could show up in HLO with a blank floppy...

87.15BUSY::SLABGood Heavens,Commander,what DID you do?Fri Apr 18 1997 12:5113

    	You can set the protection on the file such that it's world read-
    	able.

    	SET PROT = (G:RE,W:RE) NAME.WAV

    	and then post the location here. IE,

    	the file is at NODE::DISK:[DIRECTORY]FILE.WAV

    	Keep in mind that if the file is in a subdirectory then the prot-
    	ection on the directory itself needs to allow G:RE and W:RE also.

87.16I was never very good at this...BIGQ::SORRELLSPut your behind in your pastFri Apr 18 1997 14:2513
    Somebody try this:

      deming::user2$:[sorrells.public]googly.wav

    -->show security [.public]googly.wav

    USER2$:[SORRELLS.PUBLIC]GOOGLY.WAV;1 object of class FILE
         Owner: [DRA,SORRELLS]
         Protection: (System: RWD, Owner: RWD, Group: RE, World: RE)
         Access Control List: <empty>

    1) can you copy it?
    2) does it sound OK
87.17BUSY::SLABGrandchildren of the DamnedFri Apr 18 1997 14:394

    	I don't have a sound card here at work, but it copied fine and
    	appears to be the correct size for a 5- or so second clip.
