1352.0. "Salvation vs. Eternal Life" by APACHE::MYERS () Mon Apr 28 1997 16:57

    Two concepts often bandied about: salvation and eternal life. Though
    related, aren't they really two distinct concepts? Being "saved" is not
    enough to guarantee eternal life, but one cannot receive eternal life
    without salvation. Or not?

    Excellent note Eric. I've often had these questions too. Mix in with
    these the goal of achieving "The Kingdom of Heaven" (or God). They are
    all depicted as prizes or goals.

    The idea of eternal life may only be appealing if that life is
    pleasant (i.e not eternal life in Hell). In fact eternal life (given
    life as we know it) sounds rather boring.

    The idea of salvation brings up the question "salvation from what?".

    Outside of the "Kingdom of Heaven", what other kingdoms or existences
    are there? (what are the options)

    May I recommend a book by John MacCarthur called "The Glory of Heaven"
    that brings all the scriptures together that discuss heaven.
