This is just extra info for you:
There's an operation to cure brain aneurysms that involves lowering the
temperature of the body until brain activity stops. Then the heart is
stopped and the blood drained from the body. By all legal definitions, the
patient is dead. The doctors then operate on the brain to fix the aneurysm.
After that, they reinsert the blood back into the body, warm it to the
proper temperature and shock the heart into beating again. Resurrection in
a way, I suppose.
Human beings can apparently be stopped and rebooted like any machine, given
the right conditions.

Richard,
Jesus spoke of a coming resurrection in John 5:28,29 NWT and persons
coming out of the memorial tombs. The reason being is that when
we die we cease consciousness (compare Eccl 9:5,10, Psalms 146:4,
Psalms 6:5, Isaiah 38:18, Eccl 3:19,20, Psalms 115:17). Our
personalities only remain in peoples memories. God is not forgetful,
hence Job expressed the following words "O that thou wouldest hide
me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until they wrath
past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!"
Job 14:13 KJV. God will remember Job when Jesus gives his commanding
call and Job comes out of the memorial tomb. Seeing that God can number
the very hairs on our head, he can also remember in every detail
our personality or our identity. So yes, it would seem so that our
identity can remain intact but only if God remembers us.

| Christ taught that there is life after death (Luke 16:19-31), Christ
promised continuing life the same day after death (Luke 23:39-43), and
Paul taught an independent existence apart from the body after death
(II Corinthians 5:5-8; Philippians 1:19-24).
The immortality of the soul is a God-inspired truth (Ecclesiastes 12:7,
II Corinthians 5:1,6-8).
The resurrection is a returning of the soul back to its body (I Kings
17:17-24, Luke 7:11-17), and will happen when Christ returns
(Luke 24:36-43, Philippians 3:20-21, I Corinthians 15:39-54).
