1160.0. "Sacrificial giving" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Ps. 85.10) Fri Oct 13 1995 13:39

    There's such a thing as giving out of a sense of duty, obligation and
    rightness of purpose, which may or may not be given cheerfully.

    Sacrificial giving is by nature giving more than one would like to
    give.

    Shalom,
    Richard

    Sacrificial giving is giving of one's substance rather than of one's
    excess.

    The widow and the two mites are a great example. Jesus said that the
    pharisees gave of their wealth but this woman gave all that she had!

    What's "substance" as opposed to "excess"?

    That's a good question, and one subject to individual understanding
    and interpretation. If I may speak metaphorically, substance is bread
    and excess is cinnamon toast.
