1091.0. "Hollywood" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Unquenchable fire) Sat Jun 03 1995 13:02

Hollywood, the film and music entertainment industry in particular, recently
came under the attack of presidential hopeful U.S. Senator Bob Dole. The
objections Dole raised were less than revelations: Violence and sex.

There's been no shortage of mindless violence and meaningless sex in the
cinema for quite some time now.

Dole conspicuously failed to cite any Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis
films, however.

To what degree is Hollywood to blaim for the ills of society?

Shalom,
Richard

The film industry is central to society and what it depicts and
uses/abuses. Remember WWII and the part the industry played in
the psychological build-up of the resources and how they were to
be utilized. Women were lured out of the home into war industry
then psychologically yanked out of industry for the boys of war
    to have a job.

I do think that one can say that the film industry plays a part
in our society. We even had a film actor running our country
in our near past. The film industry played a part in that brief
reign known as CAMELOT. Look closely, dear people, the media
industry is what people turn to in order to find out what is going
on in the world at large. Do take it with a grain of salt.

James Darren's son is covering the Brown/Golman murder case in
    CAlifornia.

Art follows life, we need a major spiritual overhaul any way you look
    at it.

I commend Bob Dole, for following the lead taken by the Clinton
Administration! I always did like Tipper!

Hollywood is not the ONLY problem, but it is certainly part
    	of the problem.

Attacking Hollywood at the exclusion of the others (which I
don't see happening here) would be short-sighted and futile.

Ignoring the problem of the entertainment industry because it
is not the only problem would be irresponsible. It would be
like ignoring your leaking roof because you have other problems
with your house too. The responsible thing (if you can't handle
them all yourself) would be to contract out the various problems
    	and get them all fixed.

So Dole wants to champion the problem with the entertainment
industry. More power to him. Others champion other issues.
Perhaps someday this society will come to see all of the various
problems and how they are connected because of the efforts of
    	the various champions.
