| The new creature is transformed as you continually die to the flesh and
take on more of God's spirit. The work will be perfected when Christ
returns again and the saints in Christ are glorified.

Well, that would explain why so few Christians undergo much of
a perceivable transformation.

I don't understand this. How does this tie in with what was said in
.1?

It could be. I'm not sure.
You see, it sounds to me like Paul is talking about a metamorphosis, a total
transformation. And yet, the majority of people I've met who claim to be
Christian exhibit pretty much the same attitudes and behaviors as they've
always had. The new critter thinks and acts just like the old critter.
Now, I have heard of a few examples of radical and apparent transformations;
Francis of Assisi for one. Also, people who have had what is called a
near-death experience (NDE) are often profoundly transformed in their outlook
and priorities.
Note 998.4
It doesn't surprise me that you don't get it. My poor communication skills
are probably to blaim again.
.1 sounds to me like such a transformation could take a lifetime (or
longer) to be realized, that it's something that may be so gradual that
it's practically imperceptible; thus,

| Richard, it is a long and painful process. As long as we still have
our flesh, we won't be a perfect reflection of our Savior. I believe
Paul also wrote that you have to crucify the flesh *DAILY*! There's no
such thing as a lazy, victorious follower of Christ.
Galatians 5 and Colossians 3 speak of the fruits of the flesh that we
continually struggle with. As you rely more on God's spirit, it is
then that you are able to overcome and crucify the fruits of the flesh
in your life. Romans 7 speaks of this spiritual battle within every
person. As you learn to resist the devil and lean on God, these
temptations and fleshly problems are crucified and leave you.

998.8 | Not perfect, but a different critter | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Okeley-dokeley, Neighbor! | Tue Nov 15 1994 22:18 | 10 |
| Paul, formerly Saul or Tarsus, himself seemed to have undergone
a radical and perceptible transformation. Granted, Paul was far
from perfection. But the new critter was certainly not the same
as the old critter, and never would be again.
Even his name changed.
Shalom,
Richard

| In this hour I hear You call
Jesus Lord You paid it all
Now you bid me come and die
Pick up your cross and follow Me
Fishers of men I'll make of thee
Only come and die with Me
Come die with Me, Come die with Me
Come die with Me, Come die with Me
Your life is not your own
Lord I see your open side
Hands and feet that were crucified
Now you bid me come and die
Is it much to count the cost
To give my life to win the lost?
So you bid me come and die
I'll crucify, I'll crucify
I'll crucify, I'll crucify
My life to thee oh Lord
Almighty, Almighty
Almighty, Almighty
Is your strength,
Your love, and power.

| The new creation in Christ is radically different than the old person.
Perhaps much of the difference is internal and not external. The new
creation is aware of the presence of God at all times and makes
decisions based on that awareness. The new creation knows that nothing
is hidden. The new creation is the person who lives their lifes 24
hours per day, always with the knowledge of their relationship with the
divine and always with a knowledge of what is required because of that
relationship. The new creations is humble, because the new creation is
aware of shortcomings.

| II Corinthians 5:17-21
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not
imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of
reconciliation.
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we
pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made
the righteousness of God in him.
