990.0. "announcement" by POWDML::FLANAGAN (I feel therefore I am) Mon Oct 24 1994 11:49

This is a noting community that I have been participating in for the
past two years. I guess I can choose to be flippant when challenged
or I can be straightforward. Perhaps I am being both.

My introduction was a subtle way of hinting at my engagement. My
friend Bob and I will be getting married and joining in Holy Union on
    June 24.

I did not consider why I choose the term significant other over other
terms. I guess I see the term in a positive and not a negative sense.
Right now Bob is my significant other. In June he will be my husband.

Bob is the man I love and I do hope and dream and pray that we spend
the rest of our lives together.

My wedding ceremont, a ceremony of Holy Union, is very important to me.

It will be a ritual when we will gather with our family and freinds create
sacred time and space, and invite Goddess/God into the Covenant that
Bob and I make with each other.

I invite your prayers that our hopes and dreams are manifested in the
Marriage we are planning and creating.

I can't think of the name of the song (hymn?), but your announcement
    made me think of:
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon
you. And give you peace forever.

It may be in a hymn, but it originates from Numbers 6:24-26 and is
considered to be an Aaronic blessing. It is sometimes used by Hebrew
priests (also Messianic Jews and Christians with a Jewish Perspective)
during the Sabbath to bless children.

Ohhhh that Eric...he really pushes my buttons!! :-)

Patricia, I also wish you God's best...just remember that you don't
have to hope and wish you will spend the rest of your lives together.
Just assure one another that it will happen and base everything on
    this.

    Best Wishes!!

Congratulations, Patricia. Here are the bible readings I was asked to read
at a friend's wedding this summer:

Tobit 8:5b-8 (King James Version, except verse 7, which is
a synthesis of the Revised Standard Version,
the New English Bible, and King James.)

Blessed art thou, O God of our fathers, and blessed is
thy holy and glorious name for ever; let the heavens
bless thee, and all thy creatures.

Thou madest Adam, and gavest him Eve his wife for an
helper and stay: of them came mankind: thou hast said,
It is not good that man should be alone; let us make
unto him an aid like unto himself.

And now, O Lord, I take this my beloved to wife, not
out of lust, but with sincerity: therefore mercifully
ordain that we may become aged together.

And she said with him, Amen.

1 Corinthians 13 (Revised Standard Version)

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have
not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And
if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries
and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to
remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body
to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

    Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;
it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its
own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not
rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears
all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures
    all things.

Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as
for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass
away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is
imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will
pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I
thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became
a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror
dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I
shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.

So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of
    these is love.
