| Glenn Brown, a stranger.
Thirteen years ago a young couple, the wife 8 months pregnant, found
themselves stranded on a back road in Maine. The car limped along until
they finally made it to a motel. It was late, dark and there was no way
they could make it the rest of the way home that night.
Relieved to have made it to a motel, the couple went into the lobby to
take a room for the night. The room was a mere 32 dollars, but as the
young man began to write out a check, the clerk said, "We don't take
checks. Cash or credit card only." The couple had about seven dollars
between them and not a single credit card to their name. They pleaded
with the clerk, siting the wife's rather uncomfortable condition, but
he was unyielding. He simply wouldn't take a check.
At their lowest moment, a stranger came up and asked the clerk, "What
if I were to pay for their room and they write *me* a check?" The clerk
certainly didn't care, all he wanted was $32.00 and he didn't care who
it came form -- as long as it wasn't a check. The Stranger paid for the
room and young man wrote a check out to the stranger, thanking him
heartily.
Exhausted, the couple took their room and said a prayer of thanks. They
never saw the stranger again. But somewhere, buried in a folder in a
filing cabinet, they still have a canceled check for $32.00, payable to
the order of Glenn Brown.
I would like to be a Christian like Glenn Brown...

| Dr. Livingston, I presume!
He basically was a living sacrifice in Africa having left
behind a lucrative medical practise in Britain. As to why
he'd be so insane as to give it all up and trek to Africa
he said, "The love of Christ compels me."
After he died, Britain asked for the body of Dr. Livingston
(to bury him in Westminster). The Africans said they could
take his body, but they could not take his heart and they
took the guy's heart out!

| I don't do that anymore. I used to really respect the minister of the
church I attended about 10 years ago... until I found out he was
having an affair with someone in the choir. I no longer look to man, I
look to God.

looking for perfection.
A couple dear friends of mine are the closest I've ever seen anyone
actually living out the radical Christian message. And yet, I've
seen them, too, bungle and make huge mistakes.

Wny do you insist on being antagonistic??? What in the world have I
ever done to you to create such an atmosphere?
This is a blatant insult and is an example of what I've been saying to
you over the past few months. ... Where is your heart of love towards
me? Where is your Christianity when you say things this way?
Isn't that the question you throw at me whenever I express openly and
honestly my beliefs about homosexuality???

| Part of it may have been sarcasm. Part of it was not.
I'm seriously considering starting a policy of: "Anything that disagrees
with my genuine and authentic Christian theology, outlook and way of life
is a lie."
There's a certain verve and vitality to that brand of Christianity,
don't you agree?
Why shouldn't I wish to become more Christian in this way?

Richard *may* be offensive at times, but being offensive
isn't per se always wrong -- as any evangelical Christian
would tell you.
Richard uses offense in amazingly thought-provoking ways.

Ummm...UGH! Yes.
When I recently came back in this file on a more full-time basis, I
scanned the recent entries to review what had been happening. I
noticed note 922 where Dave Dawson, a gone but definitely not forgotten
and well-respected fellow noter, begged that the games that we're being
played cease. That was last month. Some of you have continued to keep
hurling barbs regardless of this request, and not to mention other
people's feelings. I do believe that all of us are capable of opposing
a view without having to lower ourselves and this file with slanderous
accusations and pointedly cruel insults. Whether these are used as is
or in the form of **humor** does not change what they are. I do pray
that this is not going to be a constant struggle here.
