God has given every Christian a mission: to follow Christ, to worship God every Sunday in his Church; and to work and pray and give for the spread of his kingdom. /john

.1 Thanks, /john. I guess I had something a little less generic in mind for this topic. Peace, Richard

Yes, I feel that God has given me a specific mission to participate in this conference. Also I feel that my second trip to Israel was made possible because God wanted me to spend time talking about Christianity to one particular Jewish person who attached himself to our group. ALfred

"PEACE -- There is nothing in the world more valuable than peace, and it is within each of us to choose it consciously." The above is a portion of the sentiment I found on a greeting card. Nearly twenty years ago, when I was younger and more foolish than I am now, I prayed to God to give me a mission, to burden my heart with a matter of which I would be worthy. Instead, God called me to work for peace. I did not expect God to answer me so quickly. Within 24 hours of my reporting for duty, I received a telephone call asking me to play an integral role in a program which came to fruition during the 1970s entitled "New Call to Peacemaking," a combined effort of the historic peace churches: Mennonites, Friends (Quaker), and the Church of the Brethren. There have been other issues which have arisen and to which I've responded. But the Spirit of the Living Christ has always called me back to the central issue of peace. I've learned a number of things, not the least of which is that peace is not the absence of conflict. Peace is more the absence of the will to do another harm. Peace is the recognition of the incalculable intrinsic value and sacred worth of every human being born on Earth. Peace is the presence of love. Peace, Richard
