753.0. "Dreams" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Pacifist Hellcat) Wed Nov 03 1993 20:01
Genesis 31:11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream,
[saying], Jacob: And I said, Here [am] I.
Genesis 41:15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream,
and [there is] none that can interpret it: and I have heard say
of thee, [that] thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, [It is] not in me:
God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
Numbers 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet
among you, [I] the LORD will make myself known unto him in a
vision, [and] will speak unto him in a dream.
I Kings 3:5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by
night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
Daniel 1:17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and
skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding
in all visions and dreams.
Daniel 5:12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and
understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard
sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same
Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar:
Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel
of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou
son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for
that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 2:12-13 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not
return to Herod, they departed into their own country another
way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the
Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take
the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be
thou there until I bring thee word:
Peace,
Richard

| Are our dreams of any religious significance? Of what significance
is the interpretation of dreams?

Richard

753.2 | Hi | DPDMAI::HUDDLESTON | If it is to be, it's up to me | Thu Nov 18 1993 18:45 | 12 |
| What kind of discussion would you like to get into about dreams. I had
a "experience" the other day that has made me happy to have had, but
very sad at the same time. It was a dream, but it wasn't. My
mother-in-law called it a "out of body experience". I know it wasn't
just a dream, it was different and totally out of the blue. Ever had
one of these that makes you want to go to heaven right now. Leave the
unhappiness of ______ behind?
Oh well. Have a good day everyone.

| .2 Donna,
First of all, welcome! From what you've said, your experience
sounds a bit like what I would call a "glimpse." Could you share
a little more about it? What did you see? And what meaning did it
have for you?
Peace,
Richard

| I was suddenly in a room. There were other people there too, just
standing around. Suddenly someone comes into the room that I know....
Thats all I want to share about it. But its made me sad and happy at
the same time. What meaning did it have for me? Thats private and
has me feeling a bit crazy at the moment.

753.5 | I won't pry. And I'm no expert. | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Pacifist Hellcat | Fri Nov 19 1993 11:26 | 6 |
| .4 I won't push it. As it often is with dreams, it sounds perhaps
like your subconscious is trying to work through something. At the
same time, there may be an element of revelation to it.
Shalom,
Richard

753.6 | Hi again Richard! | DPDMAI::HUDDLESTON | If it is to be, it's up to me | Fri Nov 19 1993 16:51 | 6 |
| Well, getting back to dreams. Do you place any value on dream
interpretation? I think those books are bogus. Just seems like
someone's opinion to me. And on the religious topic, how would a
person know if it was " a message from God" like you read in the bible?

753.7 | | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Pacifist Hellcat | Fri Nov 19 1993 18:52 | 18 |
| .6 Well, I don't think all the books are bogus. Some definitely are.
I think most dreams are the product of the subconscious mind, which
never sleeps, processing the dreamer's life experiences. Most of my
own dreams are so insignificant to me, I don't remember them.
I think it is possible for dreams to give the dreamer insights, if
the dreamer understands the meaning behind the symbols -- which, I know,
is not as simple as it sounds.
How to tell a prophetic dream from others? Not an easy thing to do, I
imagine. One's playful imagination can create an impression on the
senses indistinguishable from the Divine to the dreamer.
I'm no expert and I would welcome the insights of others in this area.
Peace,
Richard
