679.0. "Teachers" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (We will rise!) Wed May 19 1993 20:10

Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go
up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of
Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in
his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word
	of the LORD from Jerusalem.

John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple,
and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught
	them.

Acts 5:25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men
whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching
	the people.

To teach, according to the Bible, is honorable thing. Jesus was
even called 'Rabbi,' which means teacher.

What was your favorite or most influential teacher like?

Peace,
Richard

My favorite and most influential teacher will be three years old in 2
weeks. She has teaches me that I'm stronger than I think, that I can
handle anything. She has taught me that not only does entropy exist,
it knows my name and address. She teaches me to throw out the rule
books and the formulae, that God lives in every breath, every precious
moment. She teaches me to be true to myself. She teaches me that we
all really would prefer cherry pie to broccoli.

Thanks for writing that about Bridgitte!

These days I often look for instruction to my 13-year-old Siamese cat,
Clow, whose message is that, when all else fails, you can just sit
    there and purr...

I'm thinking of asking her to run for Congress, ;-)

I echo Ruth on this (and I think I've mentioned this in C-P before),
my greatest teachers have been my two children, Patrick and Kendra.
My nightly prayers always include thanks to God for gracing me with
these two beautiful loving souls who have continuously shone their
Light on my path.

If you figure out a way to get that to happen, let me know. :^)

Mine will hang them up after a shower...problem is they hang them on top of
another towel (which is usually dry).

Dear God! This towel thing is more universal than I'd imagined!

I'm beginning to suspect it might be epidemic. It certainly appears to
be contagious.

II Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and
a teacher of the Gentiles.

Paul claims to have been a teacher among other things.

I Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles,
then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of
tongues.

Paul puts teachers even before miracle-workers and healers.

I Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt
to teach; (KJV)

It seems that an aptitude for teaching was desirable in early church officers.

    > A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,

How does the Roman Catholic church reconcile Scripture like this
with their policy (standard, rule, ??) that priests not marry?

    Just curious...

My take is that the "rule" that Priests/Bishops shouldn't get married
    is wrong.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the
Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and
bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said
  unto you.

It appears that part of the job of the Holy Spirit is to teach.

Peace,
Richard
