653.0. "Pillars and Caterpillars" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Declare Peace!) Mon Apr 26 1993 15:12

I heard a delightful sermon many years ago that keeps coming to the fore
of my mind. It was about "Pillars and Caterpillars." These refers to
people in the church.

Pillars: Upright, dutiful, faithful, sometimes rigid and resistant to
	change or new ideas.

Caterpillars: Not developed, vulnerable, seldom receive much notice,
	but possessing enormous potential.

In your church, would you say you're more of a pillar or a caterpillar?

Peace,
Richard

And if you read "Hope for the Flowers", you'll find out about
        caterpillar pillars.

Well, I guess I should address my own basenote question.

To the occasional chagrin of my spouse, I tend to be more of a pillar
than a caterpillar. Sharon knows when I get involved with a church,
it won't be long before I'm preaching or teaching or heading up some
project. She sometimes wishes I'd just remain anonymous.

As far as being rigid, I wouldn't say I'm among the most inflexible of people
I've ever met and dealt with in the church.

Peace,
Richard
