| Enough money to pay my bills without working or worrying about it.
Time to spend on learning and teaching. Also to be able to play
basketball all day without pain the next. And a warm place to swim
every day.

| No birth defects.
No handicaps.
No disease.
No natural disasters.
No hate.
No fear.
Money would have no value. Power would have no place. We would gladly
clothe our brothers and feed our sisters. We would respect the planet
that God has given us. Nationalism, ethnocentrism, racism... all would
be unknown concepts. The human race would not be a rat race.

633.7 | All would be whole | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Rise Again! | Wed Apr 07 1993 13:12 | 31 |
| When I first toyed with the idea of starting this particular string,
I have to confess the first flood of thoughts that poured through my
mind had to do with the fulfillment of sensuous fantasies involving
incredibly gorgeous and equally unattainable goddesses such as Heather
Locklear.
That passed fairly quickly.
I then examined my own life, my own shortcomings, and those things in
life that I have been deprived of.
I then looked at this world I share with others and I thought about what
God calls us to be for each other. Heaven on earth became a matter of
rearranging priorities. Instead of being task-oriented, people would be
relationship oriented.
The insanity of war would cease. The people of Northern Ireland would
find a way to live in justice and harmony, as would the people of the
Middle East, and all the other smoldering areas of the world that flare
up generation after generation with hateful, vengeful violence.
There would be no power-mongers, no Hitlers, no Stalins, no Saddams,
no Bushs.
There would be no homelessness, no hunger.
Life threatening diseases would not exist. All would be whole.
Love and mercy would abound.

| Okay...time to add a light-hearted one:
No foods would be fattening.
Non-nutrious foods would be "good for you."
Jam on bread would never fall face down on new carpeting.
All the "good ones" wouldn't be taken already.
Kids would skip their teen years.
Nobody would remind themselves of their parents when they looked in
the mirror.

The ending of each of our individual rebellions against God, myself most
especially.
Rm 3.23, 7.19
That would take care of the problems. 8-)
Fortunately.... Rm 7.24,25a "Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me
from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Following Richard's lead, and thinking on lighter terms:
No income taxes to file every year, no IRS to worry about.
Government is ruled by and for the people, not by politicians.
Lawyers, courts, armies, police and jails are not needed,
for crime is non-existant and we all live in peace.
All businesses, corporations and utilities are owned
and regulated by and for the people.
Housing, medical care, and education are free for everyone
who needs it.
Jobs for everyone who wants one; recession, inflation and
unemployment would not exist.
Yes, I know... I'm asking for Utopia. But we can dream, can't we ?.

Yet the descriptions of heaven in the Revelation of St. John the Divine are
quite close to the solemn Eucharists at my parish, which are never shorter
than one and a half hours, last two hours on any major feast, and up to three
hours during Holy Week.
"If that's not a Solemn High Mass then I'm a blue-nosed gopher" -- Fr. Mead.
The Holy Eucharist is a foretaste of the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.

If people don't like worshipping God, heaven ain't the place for
them. It's not just going to be this place free from the things
that plague this world where we do whatever we want. I would
imagine that the best of our best worship services here on earth
are a dull comparison to what awaits God's people in heaven.

I just think heaven is going to be *alot* more God-focused than you or
I can imagine. Even as Christians, we are way too focused on our
lives, and our families, and our God, and our church, and our faith.
I mean to show how "me" focused we all are...I just always assumed
I'd get my very own mansion. Aren't I the spoiled one!?!?!?!?!?!?!
