| One possibility: Acts 2:3-4 "And there appeared unto them cloven
tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were
all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance." This is the story of Pentacost.
An other is that the "fire" refers to hardships that will come to
Christians because they are Christians that God will use to strengthen
them as a metallurgist uses fire to temper steel.

The word "fire" has been used symbolically in mystical writings
to represent the higher mind principle, while "water" represents
the emotional aspect, "earth" the physical aspect, "air" the
intuition and "aether" spirit.

| I personally believe Baptism by fire is what was experienced on
pentacost. I also agree that fire is used in the Bible as a way of
testing faith. 1st Cor: 3 says our works will be tested by fire.
Also, it is used as a sign of purifying. Rev. 3, God tells the
Laodician Church to purify their gold with fire, I.E. you have impure
lives, clean up your act!

The terms "water" and "fire" have metaphorical meanings of "knowledge"
and "love" respectively.

Yes, we are in agreement there, water = love(emotional) aspects,
fire = knowledge(mental) aspects.
