Roman 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. (KJV) Once again, we're hearing this word sacrifice a lot. What does sacrifice mean to you? Peace, Richard

Sacrifice to me is in mimicking the agape love of Christ and foresaking self. I will also say that the sacrifice we are being called to must be prudent and well thought out. Borrow and spend can be just as evil as tax and spend, granted, and we've done our share of that. However, tax and spend, which is exactly what government intends to do, has not and will not solve the problems we face today. I am being asked to sacrifice in the form of a death wish and I am not willing to do this. It has to be better thought out! In Christ, Jack

Sacrifice, to me, means giving up something vital for the sake of benefitting someone else. Relinquishing the cosmetic and the trivial is unconsequential and meaningless, at least, to me. It means giving from one's substance, rather than from one's abundance or excess. Richard

I agree. You may remember Jesus spoke of this in the parable of the widow with the two mites. The pharisees gave of their abundance but she gave all she had!! Jack

"a living sacrifice" to me means that while we are yet ALIVE that we honor God and Jesus in our bodies by being filled with His Spirit and forsaking all guile and things displeasing to Him. Once we are made new through his cleansing blood, we become anew in Him. It is then "our reasonable service" to honor Him in our bodies by santification. |
