I Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; What does it mean to you that God chose the foolish to confound the wise? That God chose the weak to confound the strong? Peace, Richard

Taking it out of context like this it could mean all sorts of things. I strongly urge everyone to read the verses around this one quoted before answering. In context it appears to me to be saying that God will use all sorts of people so that it is His strength and wisdom that shines through. It's up to us to let Him use us in this way. Alfred

Yes, by all means, read the passage in context. Peace, Richard

What this says to me is that God's way is not the way of the world. Power and acute cleverness may be much sought after attributes in the world, but God often favors that which we would least expect. God turns our thinking upside-down. The first is last. The least is the greatest. Blessed are the poor, not the rich. This verse reminds me of how frequently we ask the wrong questions, like, "How much can I spare?" rather than, "How much can I give away?" Peace, Richard

Not surprisingly I see this a strong message of evangelization. Christ is the source of true power and wisdom The gospel message that we have been saved by the death of God is an idea of human origin. The person who believes in Jesus with an elementary school education should not feel humbled by the atheist with a PhD Ordinary people in their ordinary lives are to carry the message that we "are in Jesus Christ, who has become for us wisdom from God - this is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Co 1:30-31 |
