What books would provide a classical Christian education? The Bible
provides a good base, but what other tracts should one read and why?
Some that come to mind to me include:
a. The Little Flowers by St Francis. - dedication &
self-sacrifice.
b. Confessions of St Augustine - original sin & perhaps celibacy.
c. The Pene'es of Blais Pascell - faith vrs proof.
d. The Imitation of Christ - background & perhaps evolution
of Christian beliefs.
Some that Richard might observe as recommended by a philosopher,
grand-cousin of mine include:
a. The Private Devotions of Lancelot Andrews.
b. The Devotions of John Donne.
c. A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life, by William Law.
d. The Christian's Secret to a Happy Life, by Hannah Whitall
Smith.
e. Testament of Devotion, by Thomas Kelly.
f. The Journal of John Woolman.
Are these sufficient. Should some be omitted and others added? Why? How
would your recommendations improve a classicist's understanding of
Christianity?

the Venerable Bede's "Ecclesiastical history of the English people"
for the history of the church.
