384.0. "Prayer Experiences" by LJOHUB::NSMITH (rises up with eagle wings) Thu Jan 09 1992 08:46

I had a startling experience last night when I wanted to pray for
some people I am burdened for. It seemed pointless to repeat the
same words I have used so many times for these people, and I know
that words are not necessary to God, Who already knows their needs.

So I decided I would simply lift them into the Presence of God.

I was surprised to "see" that they each reacted to the presence of
the Divine Light! One seemed blinded and confused in and by the Light...
The other sat sadly with her back to the Light, apparently stuck in her own
depression and unaware of the Light.

I fell asleep before I was able to lift others up...

From Romans:

8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we
know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit
itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot
be uttered.
8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the
mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the
saints according to [the will of] God.

    Nancy,

Perhaps the essence of Christian mysticism moving
in your life and your soul. Praying becomes a whole
    new experience.

    Peace and nurturance,

I try to be very careful about what I pray about anymore.

In the mid-70's, I asked God in prayer to give me a mission.
Within a week I was approached by a pastor of the Church of the Brethren
to provide local leadership for an effort to re-establish the Christian
roots of peacemaking; the vision of Shalom.

I remember closing my eyes and feeling most inadequate to the task.
I silently asked, "Is this it? Is this the mission?"

The answer was a nearly audible, "Yes!"

I've not asked for anything in prayer in a casual way ever since.
