325.0. "Comic book style tracts" by CSC32::J_CHRISTIE (Watch your peace & cues) Tue Oct 01 1991 23:02

What thoughts do you have about those comic book style tracts you
see from time to time?

Some good some bad. There are a few that I've seen that are more
anti-Catholic then pro-Christ though. Those tend to geve the good
ones a bad name. Also some tend to be overly judgemental and use
    unfortunate choices of words.

325.3Too much hate and fear in the tracts I've seenCSC32::J_CHRISTIEWatch your peace & cuesThu Oct 03 1991 23:348
Maybe I've never seen any of the good ones. All the ones I've ever seen
repelled me with their stark, judgmental absolutism, their shallow focus
and their dependency on the fantastic.

PS In defense of comics as a learning tool for children, I first learned
the story of Moses and the Exodus through a series called Classics Illustrated.

RE: .3 There are some full size Christian comic books. Some use
the Archie characters for example. These are pretty good. There
are also a good number of comics telling the stories of Biblical
chararcters. And some modern day Christian heros as well. The
comic version of Corrie Ten Boom's "The Hidding Place" for example.

325.5Never cared for Chic(sp?)NYTP07::LAMQ KtlFri Oct 04 1991 10:574
I never liked the Chic or Chick brand of comics tracts or comic books.
Not because of their content but simply because I didn't like the
artist's style. They always looked dark and forboding. But some of
the comics that use the Archie's characters are pretty good.
325.6Did ya' get it in the mail?LJOHUB::NSMITHrises up with eagle wingsFri Oct 04 1991 17:007
If you're talking about one you probably got in the mail this week
from a small church in Tennessee, it might interest you to know that
that church mailed one to every residence in the US! Whatever you
may think of the content, I think that is an amazing and admirable
undertaking for a local church to do as part of its evangelistic
ministry! I mean, what vision and daring it must have required to
    get it started!
