I saw most of Larry King's interview with Billy Graham last night.
Very good. Unfortunately I caught the extremely late edition, so
I don't quite remember his exact quotes, however when Larry K. asked
him about the US being formed as a Christian nation, he replied
something like:
"The Puritans who landed here wanted it that way. However with the
people of other faiths also coming to the country, by necessity it is
now a secular, pluralistic society which welcomes the Hindus, Buddhists,
Muslims and many other religions as well. So we are now living in a
country where *every person is completely free to practice their
religion as they so choose*. And religious freedom is one of the most
wonderful things about this country.
I do wish the Bible were taught more in schools, however one thing I
would like to see in every classroom is the 10 Commandments posted on
the wall so that the youths growing up today know there are some
moral and ethical boundaries on their behavior." [end]
If anyone gets the transcript, feel free to correct these words above
since they are paraphrased at best.
My own thoughts - I think that would be a great idea, and to add to
that, also post the equivalent statements in the other religions as
well, since all other religions have the same ideals as stated in the
10 commandments, only using different words.
