280.0. "Church of God of Prophecy" by RDGENG::LIBRARY (A wild and an untamed thing) Fri Aug 02 1991 05:39

Can anyone tell me anything about the Church of God of Prophecy? I've
been invited to one of their meetings and I'd like to know what they're
    about first.

Are these the people who publish the Plain Truth magazine and have a

I'm afraid I can't provide you any information on the Church of God of
Prophecy Alice, but I would like to extend to you a *warm* welcome to
    Christian-Perspective.

    peace,
    Karen
280.3RE: .1 - You are thinking of Garner Ted and Herbert W. Armstrong ...YUPPIE::COLEProposal:Getting an edge in word-wise!Fri Aug 02 1991 13:235
... I would bet, and I am about 99% certain this church is con-
nected to them in some way. I haven't noticed (or looked for) either of
them on the tube for a while. I think Herbert W. kicked G. Ted out for
a while some years back when G. Ted was in some sort of financial deal
that got in trouble(?).

My brother-in-law was a member of this church in New Hampshire for many
years. CoGoP broke off from one of the 4 Church of God denominations.
Seperation was over teachings on divorce and the wearing of jewelry.
It seems to be a smallish denomination, eveangelistic, borderline
fundamentalist, a little legalistic over what I consider to be
    nit-picky type things.

When we visited the church we were made to feel welcome.

A good source for info on various religions, sects, and denominations
and their histories is the Encyclopedia of American Religion. Most
    libraries will have a copy.

There's a Church of God of Prophecy in Hudson, NH. I've
attended a few times, and our church (Grace Fellowship of
Nashua) used to have joint services with them. As far as I
could tell they were biblically "right on".
