RE: .0 Richard, Are you talking about AA and ACOA type programs? If you are then I can tell you (being an ACOA) that they teach a love for "a" higher power. Dave

Re: -1 You've got the right idea. There are lots of such programs, usually set up for persons experiencing addictions and codependencies. Are such programs complementary to the Christian faith, or contrary to the Christian faith, or what? Peace, Richard

Hi Richard, As an ACoA and incest survivor, and hence a member of the ACOA and ISA family groups, I can say that I have found tremendous spiritual strength and support in such groups. My life has literally been saved through these programs. Being fashioned after AA, they are designed to be spiritual groups, not religious groups. They have borrowed the heart of love from many sources. Of some of the groups I have seen, if there is any specific leaning, it is in fact towards a traditional Judeo-Christian faith...for example the Lord's Prayer is often used as a meeting opener or closer. (This is often modified in ISA groups to "Our God, which art in Heaven...", because the image of such a loving father can be quite alien.) Over all, I would think that such programs are not only complementary to the Christian faith, but to all Love centered faiths, as well. Further, I've seen nothing *contrary* to the Christian faith, in any practical matter. That is, anonymous programs intend to be silent on any matter of theology, while being a source of strength while one explores their own spiritual path. Take what you need, and leave the rest... .-) Peace, Jim

Not too much time to note right now but.... Yes, complemetary for me too. And, there is a 12-step for christians meeting in Hudson NH that is an even better combination for me. It has been meeting for 1 year now but I just discovered it recently. Dolores
