| I am perhaps in a minority in that I believe that a really good
moderator can leave their personal beliefs out of moderating a
conference. As such I generally refrain from assuming bias in
moderation until proven wrong. I've only been proven wrong a few
times so far. The lack of a conservative or fundamentalist moderator
doesn't worry me a bit.
Conference moderators come and go. In general they tend to evolve
in membership to meet particular needs of a conference. Should this
conference develop to where other moderators with other viewpoints
are needed I believe, based on the moderation I've seen here so far,
that those other moderators will be solicited.

FWIW, I hosted and moderated the CATHOLIC-THEOLOGY conference for
quite some time even though I am not and have never been a Catholic.
And in fact I have very serious reservations about some Catholic
theological beliefs. It never, to my knowledge, was a problem though.

Ed,
As the person most "responsible" for this conference (since
it resides on my workstation -- a mere one foot from my
keyboard -- I can only hope that my order for a 10-foot cable
comes through soon! :-), I would want the moderators to
represent a broad spectrum of Christian (and
interested-but-non-Christian) backgrounds. This would
include conservatives. I think it would also help to have
some participation from cultural, ethnic, or racial as well
as religious minorities.
Let this be an open invitation for candidates for additional
moderators. The acceptance of new moderators will only be
done in collaboration and agreement with the current
moderators (whom I trust greatly).

I would hate to see the "job" of moderator become a "Horse
race". If you asked me how else to do it, I would have to say I don't
know, but other conferences tend to allow the current moderators to
choose one they can agree on and then ask that person. I also think
that a "wide" mix would be very good.

Horse race? The stalls at the gate appear to be all empty. 8-}
Dave,
Are you now or have you ever been a card-carrying fundamentalist
or theological conservative? If yes, are you available for nomination?
Peace,
Richard

I'd nominate Dave in minute if he'd take the job. He's
an 'immersion southern Baptist' a former licensed lay minister,
a sensitive thoughtful person, and a good friend.
