157.0. "Please pray for laid off DECies." by CSC32::C_HOE (Sammy will be THREE in 3 months!) Tue Feb 05 1991 14:48

Brothers and Sisters,

Yesterday, I read a note from a FORMER DEC employee, who, as I
understand it, was told that she was laid off by 5PM. I am sure
that she will not be the only one. I ask your prayers for them as
I KNOW the trauma to be told that you are nolonger a contributing
member of the group. Please hold them to the Lord for strength
and guidance.

I know that with faith, one can find self-worth through the
corporate strength of the body of Christ.

In His peace,

calvin

Dear brothers and sisters,

You may be following the developments in my life and my job
search. As you may have seen in this note, I was prematurely
celebrating my landing a job in Nashua; at the eleventh hour, the
job fell through. After thinking it over, the manager appealed
the decision from her level 2 manager and was still turned down.
There were two other jobs; but I just heard that another was
awarded to some one more qualified.

Normally, it would not bother me too much but the Employee
Resource Center is closing down and those left in transition may
be involuntarily walked out the door; namely me. My family and I
is in need of your holding up to Him in prayers. I feel ever so
weak and feel like the Psalmist "Lord, I want to be in the womb
and be safe from the ravages of the world."

I feel ever so tempted by Satan; since I do not know if all the
doors was opened to the last minute was Satan's doing to trip me
up or was He showing me that there is another path that He wants
me to take.

Thank you Lord for a wonderful companion and spouse who is
standing by me. Thank you Lord for my son who makes my bleakest
days into a moment of joy. Thank you Lord, for your Son who's
death on the cross gives me hope.

In His name,

Calvin

    Calvin,
I've been out of a job more than once. For the most part, it was
for the better. Even my greatest trial by unemployment had a good
effect, it brought my high blood pressure under un-medicated control.
No, I would not wish to be unemployed. No, I would not take an offered
package given a choice. Still, unemployment need not be the end. A
difficult time, perhaps, but a time of strengthening and bonding. More
time with Sammy at an active time in his life, if nothing else.

157.8relief and searching for work..CSC32::C_HOEDaddy not working today?Wed Mar 27 1991 18:4520
I received the "package" today: a whole feeling of relief swept
over me. I felt that it was a gift that I may not have received
otherwise since I turned down TFSO-2 to continue search for work
within DEC.

I pray that those who are involuntarily separated from DEC will
find the goodness and opportunity that may be open to you and
bless you with. I pray that you will find His will in all your
searches.

In Rabbi Harold Kushner's book, "Who Needs God", he
says that self-righteousness is to give God the control over your
life. I had always had bad connotations about self-righteousness
as a holier-then-thou position; I sure learned otherwise from
"Who Needs God".

I will be working through friday noon. Then, I must sign off from
DEC.

Moments ago, I spoke with Calvin Hoe. He's got some interviews lined up
and he sounded pretty upbeat about his present pursuit of gainful employment.

I'm certain he'd be pleased to know we're continuing to support him and
all the Digital people who are in the throws of transition in prayer.

Cal asked about this conference and couple others. He says this network
of friendships is what he misses most about not being at DEC. He was
overwhelmed with the number of farewell messages he received after he
announced his days with DEC had dwindled to only a couple.

I told Cal I'd mail him (U.S. mail) any notes intended for him. I'd be
willing to do the same for offline messages, as well.

Peace,
Richard

Earlier today I learned of some more DEC employees who have been
notified of their impending involuntary termination with the company.
One of them is someone I've come to love and respect over the years
through the vehicle of Notes and through personal correspondence.

I think we need to offer up prayers not only for those who will soon
be parting, but for all those who remain and who will suffer from
'survivor's guilt,' an increased workload, and the anxiety of not
knowing when - and if - their time will come.

Peace,
Richard

this coming Friday, will no longer be employed by Digital.

Divine and Living Light, guide the paths of those who are now parting from us,
and whose futures seem so filled with uncertainty and insecurity. Grant them
courage. Grant them wisdom. From your limitless abundance, grant them the
resources to deal with whatever individual situations they may be facing.

Be with them in the making of their choices and open their eyes to the
possibilities they might otherwise overlook.

Surround them with your love. Drench them with your mercy and grace. Splash
them with unexpected blessings.

This I ask in your own Holy name. Amen.

Bob,

I'm certain Cal would be pleased to know that he is remembered here.
I hear from him infrequently. Last I heard, Cal was going through the anxiety
of another workforce reduction, this time at Cray.

Some folks may not know this about Cal, but he was fully trained as
an Episcopal priest. A crisis of a personal nature interrupted his plans to
be ordained. Roy Sano, the presiding Bishop of the Rocky Mountain Conference
of United Methodist Church, was his mentor.

Peace,
Richard

To the best of my knowledge, Carla never visited here. But I was
privileged to know the mystical poet with the spikey hair and spiderweb
stockings. And I know several others here knew Carla as well.

I will keep her close in prayer.

I am sooooo tired; I am soooo sorry for the turmoil people are going
thru - and rumors floating around about no end in sight. Sigh...

Dear God - that you may wrap a blanket of love, of warmth around, these
our friends. That you may lift them out of the trenches and help them
as they struggle to find the way. That you might be the light, maybe
distant, yet visable. Kiss these, our friends, with your gentleness
and let them feel your strength, your comfort.

In Christ's Name, we come to you in prayer.
