| "From a Distance"
A fairly recent song. It puts a whole lot into perspective.
I would prefer it even more if the composer had used "human"
where "man" was used.
Peace,
Richard

| "Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
I try to imagine myself hearing this when it was written.
While it *seems* to us to be solemn and somber, in its time
it was considered lively and robust.
Peace,
Richard

Almost anything by Carmen...
Especially his most recent album 'Revival in the Land' (I got it
for CHRISTmas). I like "A Witches Invitation", it deals with the
power of satan when compared to the offerings of God.

| This song is frequently sung at my church. My heart goes into my throat
and my eyes fill up with emotion every time I hear the refrain:
You said You'd come and share all my sorrows,
You said You'd be there for all my tomorrows;
I came so close to sending You away,
But just like You promised, You came there to stay;
-- I just had to pray.
(refrain) And Jesus said "Come to the water, stand by my side;
I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied.
I felt every teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."

"It is well with my soul"
How the words of this song came to be written has been a great help
to me in times of great sorrow.

| Forward Through the Ages (Words to the tune "Onward Christian Soldiers")
========================
Forward through the ages, In unbroken line, Move the faithful spirits
at the call Divine: Gifts in differing measure, Hearts of one accord,
Manifold in service, One the sure reward.
Chorus: Forward through the ages, In unbroken line, Move the faithful
spirits at the call Divine.
Wider grows the vision, Reign of love and light; For it we must labor,
Till our faith is sight. Prophets have proclaimed it, Martyrs testified,
Poets sung its glory, Heroes for it died.
Chorus: Forward through the ages, In unbroken line, Move the faithful
spirits at the call Divine.
Not alone we conquer, Not alone we fall; In each loss or triumph,
lose or triumph all. Bound by God's far purpose in one living whole,
Move we on together, to the shining goal.
Chorus: Forward through the ages, In unbroken line, Move the faithful
spirits at the call Divine.

128.10 | O come, O come, Emmanuel | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Strength through peace | Mon Nov 30 1992 18:02 | 28 |
| O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Child of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!
O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadow put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!
O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one hearts of humankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

"It is well with my Soul"
THis song has gotten me thru some pretty rough times and the story
behind it even more powerful than the song itself.

| I often wonder, is it so?
All I am holding once let go,
How could I manage?
I don't know.
But still somehow thrives this Love
Which I pray I'm worthy of.
Still somehow thrives this Love.

128.14 | Every Star Shall Sing a Carol | CSC32::J_CHRISTIE | Strength through peace | Mon Dec 07 1992 17:59 | 22 |
| Every Star Shall Sing a Carol
=============================
Every star shall sing a carol, Every creature high or low,
Come and praise the King of Heaven
By whatever name you know.
God above, All below, Holy is the name I know.
When the King of all creation Had a cradle on the earth,
Holy was the human body,
Holy was the human birth.
God above, All below, Holy is the name I know.
Who can tell what other cradle High above the milky way,
Still may rock the King of Heaven
On another Christmas Day?
God above, All below, Holy is the name I know.
[My favorite verse]
Who can count how many crosses Still to come or long ago
Crucify the King of Heaven
Holy is the name I know.
God above, All below, Holy is the name I know.

Do I trust you Lord?
Sometimes my little heart can't understand
what's in your will, what's in your plan.
So many times I'm tempted to ask you why?
But I can never forget it for long
Lord what you do could not be wrong,
so I believe you, even when I must cry.
Do I trust you Lord? Does the river flow?
Do I trust you Lord? Does the Northwind blow?
You can see my heart, you can read my mind
and you've got to know I would rather die
then to lose my faith and the One I love.
Do I trust you Lord? Do I trust you?
Lord I'm keeping my eyes on you. Following you. Following you.
My Lord, I'm keeping my eyes on you. Following you. Following you.
Oh, I won't look to the left or right. My only goal is keeping you
in my sights.
Lord I'm keeping my eyes on you. Following you. Following you.
My Lord, I'm keeping my eyes on you. Following you. Following you
my Lord.
We will glorify the King of kings.
We will glorify the Lamb.
We will glorify the Lord of lords.
Who is the Great I Am.
Who is the Great I Am.
Who is...
I will trust you Lord when I don't know why.
I will trust you Lord till the day I die.
I will trust you Lord when I'm blind with pain.
You were God before and you never change.
I will trust you. I will trust you.
I will trust you Lord.
