My nephew Jimmy Zell, who is in the Army ground forces. Also his
friend Rob (I don't know his last name) who is in the Army airborne.

And for my sister Kitty - not only is her son Jimmy in Saudi Arabia,
her son Frankie (Jimmy's twin) just entered the Air Force, and her
daughter Terri is also in the Air Force.

    Thanks much,
    Carole

| | Captain Roy Caldwell, my spouse's cousin in the US Airforce. He's
just flew with his group there for the sun and sand.
Lord, please guide the leaders of the world in YOUR way of peace.
Help us always to remember that it is Your desire that we live in
peace and harmony; it is the hardness of our hearts that leads us
into temptation and war.
Thank you Lord for the sacrifice of these young people that we
live in the troubled peace that we have so far.
Amen

The following words are from a song from the play "Les Miserables".
They keep going through my mind as I think of my nephew who is not
very far from the Kuwait border, and all the other people who are
in harm's way. This song was sung by an older man who was just coming to
know this young man who was fighting for freedom in France. It is
appropriate for anyone who is involved in this kind of conflict.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    	God on high
    	Hear my prayer
    	In my need
    	You have always been there
    	He is young
    	He's afraid
    	Let him rest
    	Heaven blessed
    	Bring him home
        Bring him home
        Bring him home
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son
        The summers die
        One by one
        How soon they fly
        On and on
        And I am old
        And will be gone
        Bring him peace
        Bring him joy
        He is young
        He is only a boy
        You can take
        You can give
        Let him be
        Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live, bring him home
        Bring him home
        Bring him home

Your welcome Nancy. This is such a hard time and I have had so
many different emotions welling up inside of me. I'm sure there
are so many others that are going through similar things. I am
trying to fill the world with as much compassion as I can muster
    right now.

| | Carole,

I read part of the song at our community peace vigil last night during
the time of "Prayer and readings by anyone present." I knew I couldn't
get through it all without breaking down, though...

The service was ecumenical, the church was full, it was one of the most
emotion-laden services I have ever been through. There were prayers,
saying the names of those in the Gulf who are dear to those present,
candlelight, and a walk over ice and snow to the common with our
candles, ending with "Let There Be Peace on Earth"...

Good news! My sister just heard from Jimmy. He's packing to come
home! And his friend Rob came home with the 82nd Airborne. Hooray!

Everyone else, what is happening with those you know in the Gulf?

| | For those unknown friends, cousins, relatives of mine in Iraq. Those
Assyrians still there, who'll still be there once the US, UK etc.
forces have returned home. For those who may face more terrors to come,
    as Iraq struggles within itself.

It was always a dream of mine to visit Iraq, to see my mother's
country, to visit Baghdad and see the city where my parent's married. I
may have to wait a long time before I feel I can.

    Pete.

Yes Pete, there is so much suffering occurring in the Middle East
right now, as there is in other parts of our world. I add my healing
    and supportive thoughts to yours.

I sympathize with the sense of loss that came through your words.

    Love,
    Carole
