49.0. "Stewarship/Pledge Drive" by ANKH::SMITH (Passionate committment/reasoned faith) Fri Oct 05 1990 22:13

    We need ideas for our annual Stewardship Drive or Pledge Campaign or
    whatever you might call it. What methods have worked for your church?

    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Nancy,

    	This topic I associate with drudergy. I know of no one who looks
    forward to the annual church pledge drive.

    	A pastor I had in Phoenix once said that one's giving is proportional
    to one's relationship with God. The OT says give 10%. The NT says
    give it all (100%) and not necessarily to the church.

    Peace,
    Richard

49.4Joy of givingTLE::TLET8::ASHFORTHFri Nov 30 1990 12:4617
We, too, are in the midst of a stewardship drive.

Our approach does include the appointment of a stewardship committee, which
contacts church members directly. It also takes the direct approach of focusing
on the topic of stewardship during worship services for the few weeks prior to
receipt of pledge cards.

I think this is a vital part of the stewardship process. We focus on the work of
the church and the vital part ALL giving, monetary, volunteer work, mission
support, and whatever else the church DOES all play in it. We intentionally
downplay the "tithin" aspect, as pledges are *offered* and not *collected.*

Giving is a joy, not a duty. I think most of our members share in this feeling
at least somewhat- I hope so. "Stewardship time" can be an exciting time to
review the accomplishments of the church and explore what you are as a body
of Christians. Oh, yeah- it does pretty well at obtaining financial support
too!
