1.0. "Welcome from the moderators!" by XANADU::FLEISCHER (without vision the people perish (381-0899 ZKO3-2/T63)) Wed Sep 19 1990 17:55

Welcome to the Christian-Perspective notes conference!

The purpose of this conference is to discuss various doctrines,
teachings, and spirituality and their application to living from a
Christian perspective, in which all denominations are welcome, and in
fact, those who have no denominational affiliation are equally
welcome as well. In the ensuing discussions, we hope that
historical, contemporary and evolutionary issues of Christianity will
be discussed to help bring greater clarity and inspiration to those
of all spiritual persuasions, particularly Christians.

The originators of this conference are interested in fostering a
truly ecumenical environment to encourage all Christian perspectives.
Therefore this notes conference is being centered in an open
Christian context and it is not establishing rigid guidelines about
acceptable and unacceptable topics of discussions and sources of
spiritual information. Discussions can focus on personal issues,
world events and everything else in between.

It is to be expected that from time to time, other religions or
spiritual philosophies will be discussed in order to compare and
contrast them with Christianity. This is entirely appropriate. We
would ask all participants to refrain from lengthy exchanges that are
primarily about non-Christian topics. Instead, we encourage the
placement of "pointers" to other notefile conferences, including, but
not limited to RELIGION, where such discussions might take place at
    greater length.

If a new subject is brought up in a topic that begins to stray from
the base note, a new topic should be created for those who wish to
    pursue that particular subject further.

As much as possible, try to avoid long notes, i.e. try to keep notes
under 100 lines. You can probably say what you want to say in under
    1000 words.

Avoid attacks, both direct and veiled, against persons and
identifiable contemporary groups of people. If any such attacks come
to the attention of the moderators, the author will be contacted by
mail, in an attempt to resolve the situation. Blatant attacks may be
set hidden. If you consider a reply to be offensive in any way,
    please first try to resolve the problem by sending mail to the author;
if you feel that a moderator must intervene, please send mail to a
    moderator.

This may mean that, for some people, there might be valid
Christian topics which cannot be easily discussed, but we believe
there are far more valid Christian topics which can be.

This conference, therefore, is a bold experiment to see if "agape",
love with a uniquely Christian character, can exist and be shared in
an electronic medium open to all who work for Digital.

Again welcome! We hope you find the discussions herein fruitful,
evocative, and inspiring in your life and spiritual endeavors.

    Thank you,

I have created keywords for all the base notes that have been entered so
far, and my intention is to add a keyword to each base note as it is
entered. This should make it easier to find all notes on a particular
subject, and hopefully it will reduce the number of duplicate topics.

1.2Conference Information - master index noteDECWIN::MESSENGERBob MessengerSun Oct 07 1990 17:5611
I have created note 10 as the "master index" for conference directory notes.
This should make it easier to locate notes of long-term interest. For
example, note 51 contains pointers to related conferences. Someone looking
for that kind of reference material would first look in note 10, which would
direct him or her to note 51.

(Actually I could have used note 7, which is currently unused, for the
related conferences note, but once notes 7 and 10 were gone we'd eventually
have had to deal with the shortage of low-numbered notes.)

I am stepping down as a conference moderator, effective today. I leave
you in the able hands of the rest of the moderator crew, who have done
a wonderful job up to this point and will, I am sure, continue to do
    so.

As of today, I am resigning as a moderator of CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE. I'm glad
that I was able to help establish the conference a year and a half ago, and I'd
like to thank everyone who has helped to make this conference a success.

1.7Ample NoticeCSC32::J_CHRISTIEPacifist HellcatMon Mar 28 1994 20:1110
As of May 22, 1994, the duration of my service as co-moderator of
CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE will end. My co-moderators have been notified of this
decision.

It has been a high and holy honor to serve with them for the past
3+ years. Moreover, it has been a pleasure.

Shalom,
Richard Jones-Christie

CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE is pleased to announce the most recent
addition to the moderator team, Debby Haeck.

Debby is a member of a small Episcopalian congregation and
serves as a Eucharistic Minister. She's been with Digital for close
to 10 years. She's a software engineer for CSS in MKO.

Debby's married and has 3 children; 2 girls (ages 19 and 7) and
a 5 year old boy.

Thank you Debby for accepting this challenging task. God grant
you wisdom and a sense of humor.

Shalom,
Richard

It is likely that this will be my last entry while a moderator of
the CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE conference.

It has been a high and holy honor to have served, and to have
been trusted to serve, as moderator since mid-September 1990. I have
considered it a ministry, and therefore, have taken the responsibility
associated with the role of moderator very seriously.

There have been some tough times, some tense times, some
maddening times. I'm not sure that any of them were necessarily
bad times. Well, most of them anyway.

There have been plenty of good times, too. I've gotten to
know some pretty wonderful people and have been moved by some pretty
powerful entries.

I leave the tasks of moderatorship in good and capable hands.
I know each one -- Bob, David, Jim, Patricia, and Debby -- feels as
strongly about this responsibility as I do. I intend to continue
participating in C-P. However, I probably won't be initiating new
topics or trying to stimulate an exchange of thoughts as often as I
have in the past.

Perhaps I'll adopt a lower profile. Then again, perhaps not.
;-}

Shalom,
Richard

wisdom and a sense of humor.

I have been asked to resume duties of a moderator here in the
Christian-Perspective notesfile and have accepted.

The nomination comes at a time when other circumstances and
concerns are competing for the attention of some of the team (see Derek
Button's 1152.0, for example).

It is my great honor to be once again a part of this fine team.

Richard
