442.0. "Disneyworld for Terminally Ill Mom" by BRAT::JANEB (See it happen => Make it happen) Thu Jan 19 1995 13:37
Have you every heard of Disney sponsoring a visit to WDW for a family
when the *mother* is terminally ill?
My husband knows a mother of two young children who is terminally ill.
She has been told by her doctors that she has (something like) 2-3
months left. Her co-workers and former co-workers are trying to raise
money to send her family to Disney World, but it seems unlikely that
they will raise enough cash to pull it off.
I've been thinking about this today. I know that "Make A Wish" and
other organizations sponsor trips for sick kids, but I've never heard
of sponsorship for adults.
I'd bet these co-workers could raise the airfare, if Disney would kick
in the lodging and admission.
Obviously, there isn't time for alot of red tape.
I called my husband's office today and suggested that they call WDW,
but I know that the folks in this conference have MUCH more experience
with the Disney organization than just about anyone else.
Any ideas?

442.1 | Try Disney Mag | MIZZOU::WIEDEMAN | | Thu Jan 19 1995 13:56 | 8 |
| In a recent issue (I think it was last summer), of the Disney Magazine
that we get at home there was an article about a special place for
terminally ill children at WDW where they and their families can stay.
Maybe they would allow this family to stay there also. If I can find the
issue I'll post the any info I can find.

442.2 | Try make a Wish foundation | HOTLNE::FLANAGAN | | Wed Jan 25 1995 16:57 | 15 |
| My son was terminally ill about five years ago, an our family went to
disney. The social worker handled everything for us. The Children's
Happiness foundation sponsored our trip. Why don't you call the Make
a Wish organization and ask if they know of an organization that does
the same thing for adults.
My prayers go out to their family and its more friends like you that they
need right now.
You also may find out some information from the Cancer society in your
area. They are there to help people with cancer.
(p.s) My son is a healthy teenager now.
