1.1 | Trip Reports - A Reminder from Len | WREATH::SCOPA | | Tue Oct 19 1993 13:00 | 29 |
| It is becoming increasingly obvious that there are many Disney-holics
who read this conference who once they get their own fix of Disney,
forget about their fellows stuck back home.
I'm talking about those of you, (and you know who you are), who
spend weeks telling us all about your plans, asking advice, gleaning
priceless information from our collective Disney wisdom, and after
returning from your vacation never say another word. That goes
for the hundreds of you who only read this conference too.
That is like letting a kid look at all the candy in the shop window,
and not letting them have any. It is cruel to us addicts. We want to
know what is going on at our favorite place on earth.
So if that's the way you want it, OK, no more Mr. Nice Guy!
From now on, anyone returning from a Disney vacation is REQUIRED to
post a trip report in topic 183. Failure to do so will result in us
sending some Dole-whip crazed thugs to your house and who will forcibly
remove your mouse ears and any other Mickey souvenirs they might find.
Please don't make us get ugly. Post your report and you'll feel
much better about the whole thing.
Len
Disney Moderator
P.S. This note is only partly in jest.

1.2 | Claude's Note on Selling Admission Media - FYI | WREATH::SCOPA | | Tue Oct 19 1993 13:02 | 44 |
| To all,
There seems to have been a rash of notes lately requesting the
sale/trade/wanting of the unused portion of Disney multi-day passports,
and this is currently against the conference guideline see excerpt
below.
We instituted this guideline of forbiding the Sale/Trade/Wanting of the
unused ticket portions, since they are marked non-transferable on them.
We mod's know there is a black market on these but also know that
Disney will do whatever it takes at time to protect themselfs. The
last thing we as mod's would like to do is bring Digital into a legal
action (remember the Mickey Mouse Regis Picture episode?) with Disney
because any trading of unused ticket portions going on in this file and
possibly lose this file as a result.
So please refrain from posting these requests, and save us moderators
from having to delete them and sending you mail.

64.* For Sale/Wanted/Trade
This topic is set aside for the sale/trade/wanted of items by
Disney Noter's.
NOTE #1. This topic is set aside for aid to Disney Noter's in selling,
trading or wanting a once in a blue moon nature. Those Disney Noter's
which continuously have for sale replies or the same nature (provide
thier services in travel planing for a fee), will be deemed solicitous
in nature and will be asked by the moderators to stop, and those
replies deleted.
NOTE #2. Please refrain from posting for sale/trade/wanted items such
as Disney World/Land passports or coupons which are considered as
non-transferable by Disney and marked as such. Any posting to this
nature whether in this topic or elsewhere in the conference will be
deleted by the moderators and returned back to the author. The reason
for this is that Disney has been known to take legal action in the
past, and we don't need to get Digital in a lawsuit with Disney
concerning trading etc. of world passport taking place in this file.

1.3 | More from Claude - On Conducting Reviews | WREATH::SCOPA | | Tue Oct 19 1993 13:04 | 106 |
| Attached below is a memo that has been recirculating the net of late,
but actually was posted in the SINGLES conference back in Febuary '90,
and is not new to us Mod's.
Ron Glover's memo is NOT DIGITAL POLICY but rather writen as a
GUIDELINE on safe conduct in notes, and was used as the basis for the
policy this conference will follow in the future concerning negative
reviews of Individuals/Businesses.
This conference for the most part has been upbeat and we would like to
keep it that way. In the past we have had very little trouble with
negative reviews, (The only hidden notes deal with the MKC card
policy) in the future if you are unsure of a note/reply that you will
be posting, please run it by the moderators FIRST, if you don't you run
the risk of having you entry hidden/deleted and returned to you asking
for rewording etc.
Please keep to the FACTS when making a review. Reviews should be
HONEST, FAIR, AND FREE OF ANY INFLAMMATORY LANGUAGE. Reviews should
also be BASED ON YOUR FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCES, and if they are not, that
should be clearly stated at the begining. Also, it should be clear
that the entire review REPRESENTS THE OPINION OF THE AUTHOR, even when
the author honestly believes that he/she is reporting facts.
For example reviews with
"AVOID using Harry's Rent-A-Car because he's a crook and he's
overpriced and .."
or
"DON'T FLY TRANS GLOBAL AIR, THEIR SERVICE STINKS..."
are NOT OK and will be deleted, however reviews such as
"The last time I went down I tried Harry's Rent-A-Car. I thought that
for money I spent I would get a better serviced car. The car I ended
up with had some problems..."
or
"The last time I flew TRANS GLOBAL AIR, I had the following trouble
with their baggage service..."
will be allowed.
If someone is requesting info on an establishment, that you yourself
would never recommend to your own mother, then please fine another
method of communication to convey that to the requestor (ie phone)
Please, when writing reviews please keep the interest of yourself,
Digital and us MOD's in mind.
Thanks
Len, Mike and Claude (your freindly Mod's)

Message from Ron Glover Corporate Personnel OCT 1990
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last several months Digital has been contacted by a number
of individuals and business entities that were angry about negative
comments made about them in our Notesfiles and Conferences. As the
Personnel Policy Manager for Digital I have been the recipient of
many of those notes. I thought I should take the time to post this
note to inform employees that it is not appropriate for them to make
negative comments or references about any person or business entity
in any of Digital's employee interest notesfile or conferences.
There are several reasons why we are establishing this rule. The
first has to do with fundamental fairness. It is simply not fair for
an employee to make a negative comment about a business when we
don't provide those businesses an opportunity to respond and defend
themselves. This is particularly true given the fact that we have no
way of determining whether the comment is honest, fair or accurate.
Clearly Digital has no intention, or desire, to open up its
notesfiles to third-party businesses so that they can engage in a
debate about whether they provide quality services. The only logical
solution then is to ask our employees to refrain from using the
Notesfiles to air grievances they have with individuals, vendors, or
organizations.
In addition to out concerns about fairness, we are concerned about
the potential damage that these kinds of comments may cause to
third-party businesses. In that regard, employees should understand
that they may be personally liable if the statements they make cause
harm to any person or business. Moreover, there is some possibility
Digital may be held liable for such comments as well. Stated more
simply, comments made in a Notesfile or conference are in no way
privileged or immune from claims of liable, slander or defamation.
We are asking all of the users of Notesfiles to exercise discretion
and judgement in the comments that they make in the system. We are
also asking moderators to go back and review the notesfiles they
moderate and to remove any notes that include derogatory references
to third-party businesses.
Please feel free to contact your moderator if you have any questions
on this subject.

By way of introduction, I am the Corporate Personnel Policy Manager.

A MESSAGE TO EMPLOYEE INTEREST NOTES FILE USERS
Over the last few months I have received a number of complaints
from employees, and individuals outside of the company about
material communicated in electronic mail systems and posted in
various employee interest notes files. After reading some of this
material it is clear that a reminder about appropriate comment and
behavior in these systems is necessary.
First, and most critically; the electronic mail systems and notes
files are company facilities subject to normal workplace rules of
conduct. As such, the same rules that govern conduct and comment
in any other Digital workplace apply with equal weight in these
systems. Stated simply, if you wouldn't say something in a
Digital business meeting, you shouldn't say it in electronic mail
or notes. PERIOD.
Statements that attribute improper, illegal or immoral motives or
actions to others; statements that cast aspersions on the
character or integrity of others or that amount to libel or
slander are not permitted. PERIOD. In this regard, it does not
matter whether the individuals subject to the comment are elected
public officials or directors of organizations disfavored by the
author. There is no "Public Figure" exception in these systems.
Comments of a sexual nature are not acceptable whether they are
about the author or directed at others. Similarly, comments that
degrade, devalue or discriminate against others are also
prohibited.
Neither the notes conferences nor electronic mail should be used
to solicit other employees. This prohibition covers efforts to
solicit employees for personal or political gain, to sell or
market goods or services (except authorized marketplace or
discount conferences) and efforts to solicit employees to take
action, sign petitions or support particular causes or candidates.
Finally, employees should remember that it is never appropriate to
spend working time in employee interest notes for non-work
purposes. Personal or entertainment activities in these notes
files should be limited to assigned break times, lunch time and
before or after business hours.
Employee interest notes files and conferences provide an
electronic forum to share ideas and opinions about matters of
common interest. In supporting these conferences, the company
understood that there would be occasions where employees would
disagree on issues being discussed, but we believed and continue
to believe it is possible to disagree without being disagreeable.
Personnel Policy 6.54, Proper Use of Digital Computers, Systems
and Networks provides further information about appropriate
conduct and comment in these systems. Employees who fail to meet
these expectations, or who use company computer systems in ways
that are contrary to the letter or spirit of that policy are
subject to Corrective Action and Discipline up to and including
the termination of their employment.
The moderators of these conferences, along with your system
managers, personnel representatives and the Personnel Policy
Manager are all available to answer any question you might have
about appropriate use of these systems.
Please feel free to forward this memo to other Digital notes
files and conferences.
