395.3 | Kinda high | WREATH::SCOPA | | Tue Jan 11 1994 11:50 | 8 |
| Hmmm, so a family of four (with kids over 9) would cost $1540 for a
week. Kinda high. I'd guesstimate that "paying as you go" would run
a family somewhere between $900-1200.
I'd say the Food 'n Fun Card Option would be more attractive if it
was two meals per day (not limited to one breakfast and one dinner).

I agree. Also, it would be a better value in the summer when the parks
are open late, so you can take advantage of all the activities you're
paying for and still go to the parks. At this time of the year, you
almost have to choose between doing some activity and going to a park.

395.5 | If you like to eat... | USCTR1::MCCAULEY | | Mon Jul 25 1994 13:47 | 18 |
| We took advantage of the Food and Fun in April '94 and found it
worthwhile only because we had a couple of teenagers who ate their
fill. We used it primarily at Epcot for dinner and 'unlimited
softdrinks, appetizers and dessert' was appealing. (We ate breakfast
in a variety of places - all good). Several times we had an early light
breakfast as we beat the crowd to the parks, and had a mid-morning
brunch that carried us to dinner.
If we ordered dinner independently from the Food and Fun it would
have cost us about the same as the cost of the F and F option. What was
nice was being able to say 'sure, go ahead' whether it came to ordering a
menu item or renting a boat.
Bottomline - if you like to eat full meals, go for it and enjoy the
'Fun' that's included as an extra benefit.

| My husband, my 3 year old and I went to Disney in April, also. We
purchased the card, but didn't really save that much $$. It was more
of a hassle than it was worth. Everytime we ordered a meal and gave
our card to the wait person (PC) we were given the .50 cent lecture
about my daughters meals not being covered. Also, we could not let
her eat off of our plates. I don't think we will purchase the card
next time. I rather not have to hassle with the wait persons.

| I just got back from WDW. I purchased the Food N' Fun card with our
Festival Magic Pacakage. Myself and my 11 nephew cost $201.00 a piece
and my 9 niece cost was $58.00. The total cost was $460.00 which
entitled us to 5 breakfast and 5 dinners, plus tennis, boat rental,
and horse back riding. I saved all of my receipts and at the end
of the 5 days I was $170.00 ahead of my original cost. We also missed
one of our dinners since I had to take my niece and nephew to visit
relatives that live in Kissmee. We usually went to a character
breakfast and ate dinner at restaurants such as the Cinderalla's
Castle, Chef de France, etc. I am sure the time of the year I went
was the reason, but I had no trouble making dinner reservations, and
or changing them. At guest relations in Port Oleans they had
copies of the menus for all of the restaurants at WDW, so I was able
to make sure they had things all of us would like. I was also able to
cancel and/or change reservations at Port Oleans so that was a nice
advantage. The night we went to the HoopDeeDoo we got a $30.00 credit
for my nephew and myself and a $10.00 credit for my niece. We also rented
boats a couple of times, something I am sure we probably wouldn't have
done if we didn't have the card. Also not worrying what the total bill
would come to, including the tax and tip really made my vacation more
enjoyable and hassle free. Just to let you know how easily it can add up,
the night we ate at Cinderalla's Castle, our total bill was $91.00. I
never had any trouble with the wait staff, infact they went out of their
way to accomodate special needs (ie. My nephew who won't eat any vegetables
or any exotic sauces on his meat).
I guess it depends on your eating habits, what extras you want to do,
and the time of year you go, but IMO the card more than payed for
itself and made a great vacation better.
P.S. The restaurants and/or character breakfasts allowed with the card
is larger than has been previously listed in this notes file. If
someone would like a listing, I will send you a copy of my
Food ' Fun book.

| The Food 'n Fun saga continues... An inquiry this past weekend resulted
in a statement that you must bood a minimum of 4 days Food 'n Fun, and
it must begin the first day of your stay. Also, they now say again that it
is good for Dinner only the first day adn breakfast only the last day.
They drive me nuts.

395.10 | Our Food 'n Fun Story | NODEX::HOLMES | | Thu Jun 01 1995 16:53 | 63 |
| We used the Food 'n Fun Card option with our Classic Package at Port Orleans
for 5 days. There is conflicting documentation about the number of meals that
entitled us to. The Magic Kingdom Club brochure says that it entitles you to
breakfast and dinner each day (10 meals total for us). The information in the
Food 'n Fun booklet you are given at check in says that you get dinner on the
day of check-in, breakfast on the day of check-out, and both for the days in
between (8 meals total for us). Plus, for a limited time, they are allowing
*any* two meals to be chosen rather than just breakfast and dinner.
We chose to use the broadest interpretation we could and charged any two
meals that we wanted for each of the five days on the plan. So far, there
have been no repercussions. :-)
Since the Classic package allows you one breakfast, I've removed the cost
of our most expensive breakfast (at 1900 Park Fare) to figure out our savings
with the Food 'n Fun card. The amounts with *s near them are for restaurants
that weren't covered by the plan, so we were covered for the first $30 per
person.
Wednesday
4 lunches at Prime Time Cafe $ 102.40
4 dinners at Narcoossees $ 120.00*
Thursday
4 bkfasts at Artist Point $ 62.68
4 dinners at Coral Reef $ 194.74
Friday
4 lunches at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater $ 100.02
4 dinners at Portobello Yacht Club $ 117.07
Saturday
4 bkfasts at 1900 Park Fare $ 72.90 (not included in total)
4 dinners at Tony's Town Square $ 145.00 (estimate; can't find
the receipt)
Sunday
2 bkfasts at Cape May Cafe $ 31.58
2 lunches at Chefs de France $ 72.97
2 dinners at Boatwrights $ 64.25
2 dinners at Hoop Dee Doo Review $ 60.00*
One hour rental of Pontoon Boat $ 30.00
Half hour rental of Pontoon Boat $ 15.00
--------
Charges to Food 'n Fun Card : $1115.71
Cost of Food 'n Fun Card (4 adults, 5 days) : $ 696.00
--------
Savings : $ 419.71
Even if we knocked off two meals and stuck to the most restrictive rules, it
looks like we'd still come out ahead with the Food 'n Fun card. Granted, if
we didn't have it we might not all have had appetizers and desserts at each
meal, and we might not have eaten at such expensive places sometimes, but it
was nice to be able to do it and have it pre-paid.
Given a choice between the Deluxe Plan (which includes 3 meals per day at
any restaurant) and this, I'd take the Deluxe Plan. Not even having to
think twice about where or what to eat is pure luxury. But for a less
expensive vacation (lower priced hotel, fewer meals covered) this wasn't
a bad alternative. I'd probably do it again.

395.11 | F&F is changing, from what I hear(read) | CSC32::B_GRUBBS | | Tue Aug 08 1995 10:09 | 29 |
| Just an FYI, there is some discussion in the newsgroups about changes
to the F&F plan for 1996. If you have future trips planned using
this option it might be time to call and find out if it's still goinf
to be what you expected. Here's an excerpt someone posted....I haven't
called to confirm this.

========================================================================
> Exactly WHAT is going to happen to the list in January(when I am going)?
> What are they taking off?
The food and fun plan will be droping the more popular resturants for
dinner in '96. And no boats with drivers, or fishing trips. Water
sprites will still be included.
It seems next years Deluxe all inclusive plan will resemble the Food
and Fun plan of this year. For '95, there was really no incentive to
get the all inclusive Deluxe plan, most of the resturants were on both
lists and you could get any two meals. Earlier this year you had to
choose between a lunch or a dinner on F&F they changed that to any two
meals. This *was* one of the big features of the Deluxe All Inclusive
Plan. Plus, you *had* to buy F&F for your entire stay--not any more.
The drawbacks are the limited resturants and resturants that don't
offer Dinner for next years F&F.
In 96 it looks like the Deluxe Plan will be a better deal and the food
and fun plan will be a 'economy version'.

Currently (from now till January), is the Food 'n Fun plan still "any
two meals"? The brochure I have says breakfast and dinner, but "any
two" would be MUCH better!

when I booked it, which was only a month before I left. I was surprised by
it upon check-in, and we had to rush to a restaurant to take advantage of

Please also tell us all if they are going to enforce that new idea that F&F is
good only for one meal on the arrival and departure days.

395.15 | misinformation regarding packages | NODEX::MMCKENNA | | Tue Oct 24 1995 08:15 | 16 |
| I've been playing the priceing game lately, and have not been pleased
with some of the information I've been getting lately. Last I was told,
the Food and Fun plan (for aug 1996) can now ONLY be used at the
restaurants listed and you DO NOT get $30.00 per adult towards another
restaurant. I don't know how much to believe this, because I was also
told by another reservationist that the DELUXE plan (all inclusive) now
only included one meal the first day and one meal the last day. I have
since been assured that the deluxe plan has NOT changed and you get 3
meals each day. I've been getting a lot of misinformation from
reservations lately.
ALso, when we went in May, they told us we only had one meal the first
and last day, on the F&F plan. We has two anyway, no one ever said
anything.

| I experienced the same mixed message treatment on my last trip. I also went
ahead and has two meals the first and last days, and nothing happened.
Because of this, on my next occaision to do so, I will request that the
reservation center send my confirmation to include an itemized list of
what I am entitled to if it differs from the brochure in effect at the
time of booking. I'll be polite, but demanding, and use the fact that
I got two different stories (document that!) to justify the request.
If anyone else tries this before I do, please tell us what happens. I may
be going in February, and I know the 1996 MKC guides won't be out by the
time I make reservations, so I know it will be tricky!

| When I spoke with the CRO they told me Food n Fun could be puchased by
anyone staying within the resort. A listing still isn't out of
restaurants not on this list, but he said places like Victoria &
Albert's, Narcossi (sp), Ariel's .... You can not use the $30 credit
to eat at one of these, you must eat at one of the restaurants on the
list. You're issued daily meal coupons which you can purchase for as
many days as you like. You don't have to use in consecutive days.
Also it doesn't have to be Breakfast and Dinner, can be any two meals
you want for that day.
The only thing for fun that I was told wasn't included was Golfing,
Excursion Boats and Fishing.
A bit pricey: for 2 Adults, 2 Jrs and 1 child $1012 for 4 days or
$253/day.

| Any updates on the Food & Fun plan? We're considering getting it for
at least part of the time during our upcoming visit (Aug. 29 - Sept. 4).
Our travel agent recommended it; she said it's good for any 2 meals and
you can sign up when you check in (if you didn't do so in advance, that is :-) ).
We're interested almost as much in the activities you can use it for as
the meals... :-)
The 1996 MKC Guide says "By adding this option to your Vacation Plan,
you can enjoy two meals a day and the World's recreation for one price.
You won't have to worry about money for meals...how much you'll spend...
what recreation will cost. You can book as few as two days and use your
Food 'n' Fun meal options anytime during your Plan dates." Cost is
$58/day per adult and $21/day per child ages 3-9. "A two-night minimum
must be purchased by each member of your party."
I expect we'll check into it when we get to WDW :-), but was curious
whether anyone had any recent experience/info.
Thanks.

I mailed the CRO about Food 'n' Fun for clarification of when
the vouchers have to be used. The reply said that the vouchers
are date stamped and have to be used on that date. This
conflicts with reports have read that they have a three month
expiry date stamp and you can get away with using the two vouchers
on different days. I am interested in buying them if I can split
the vouchers over two days but do not think they would be cost
effective for us if they had to be used on one day.
They also said that Fantasia Gardens and Fantasia Fairways Mini Golf
are not inluded in the plan.
I hope you can shed some light on your return.
Cheers,
Richard

The food n' fun plan has completely changed. You no longer get
coupons for full meals, you now pay for $700 worth of food (for one
week) and you get a food debit card with $770 credit on it. Then, if
you eat $50 worth of food (with tax and gratuity) that's the amount
that comes off of your debit card. You eat until your balance is $0.
If you have booked 7 days food n' fun but you use all your credit in 6
days, then you have to pay for the 7th out of your pocket. (You can

Well, this certainly wasn't the case on the visit I and my S.O. just returned from
(Aug. 29 - Sept. 3). We decided to get 3 days' worth of Food 'n' Fun coupons,
though in hindsight, 2 days' worth would've been sufficient! Cost was $58 per
person per day (no MKC discount, alas). We each got a booklet of 6 meal coupons
(3 breakfast/lunch and 3 lunch/dinner) and 6 recreation coupons (good for 1 hour on
the boating activities, a horseback ride, and a couple other activities like croquet
and volleyball).
The coupons were NOT dated (contrary to the info in .23, though maybe that is
pertaining to the apparently new program mentioned in .24 and quoted above).
We spread the use of the coupons out over 5 days, which was a good thing because
two big meals in the same day was just too much for us! On the days on which we
did use two meal coupons, we spread the meals as far apart as possible; even so,
we weren't too hungry by the time of the second meal...

This was true. Also, none of the Boardwalk restaurants were listed, though
possibly that was because the coupons had been printed before Boardwalk opened
(we didn't ask about it because there were plenty of restaurants listed at
which we were interested in eating).
The recreation coupons seemed to be a pretty good deal. The Watersprites (mini
motorboats) cost $16.50/$17.00 per half hour (depending on where you rent them),
and one Food 'n' Fun coupon gives you an hour, which ends up being about $35 worth
(including tax). That plus a lunch at, say, Chefs de France easily covers a day's
coupon cost, and you've only used 2 coupons!
We ended up not using all the coupons even with using 4 activity coupons to get
Watersprites and a canopy boat when my S.O.'s folks (who live in central Florida)
and his sister and her two small kids (who were visiting his folks) came up for
a couple days. I think we have 2 meal coupons and 6 (!) activity coupons left;
still, I think we more than covered the total cost of all the coupons with what we
did/ate (haven't done a cost comparison yet). So, it can be a good deal if you
spread them out, and you are interested in doing boating stuff...
However, from Mike's note in .24, it sounds like the program is changing (though
no one said anything to us when we bought our coupons at the Beach Club when we
checked in). So this information I've posted may now be worth zilch. :-)

| Looks like the Food 'N Fun Plan has gone through some changes over the
last several months. I've heard three different versions since May from
people who have gone down and tried the plan.
I think once they "get it right" they'll offer 3 plans:
Food Card
Fun Card
Food 'N Fun Card
