316.1 | I'm strictly mini-golf - sorry! | A1VAX::DISMUKE | Say you saw it in NOTES... | Tue Jul 07 1992 12:59 | 11 |
| Well, I can give you the name of a nearby country club, but I have not
played golf there. My parents own a timeshare at ORANGE LAKE country
club in Kissimee - just outside Orlando about 5 mintues from the gate
of WDW.
I know that once you arrive any place you may stop to sleep/eat/shop at
will have tons of brochures on all kinds of attractions you might never
need. You may be able to just "wing it"!

| When are you expecting to play and how far are you willing to drive and
how much do you want to spend? The big problem is the prices drop in
the afternoon because we get Thunder Storms almost every day between
3-6pm. The best time to play is first thing in the AM before it
heats up. But you still can find good deals at great courses. You can
also get coupons in the daily papers (Orlando Sentinal) like:
Metro West CC $30 weekdays
Eastwood CC @$25
Hunter's Creek GC @$25
Timacuan GC $35 Includes Lunch
Palisades GC $22
Wedgefield GC $18
All these rates include cart and are midweek rates, some may be for
Florida residents so its good to know a local. If you need more help
just reply with what you need. Also what level do you all play at,
what type of courses do you like?

| We'll be happy enough to travel for up to 45 mins to get to a course,
if we're getting a good deal. The golfers among us have handicaps
ranging from 9 to 24, however from what I hear the courses in the area
are nothing like those here at home, so I think it's not worth while
trying to explain what sort of courses we like.
We are on Vacation for 3 weeks and we intend to spend the first 2 in
Orlando, we will probably move on to Clear Water for the last week, so
if you know of any good value courses in that area I be greatful.
Have you any idea how much club hire is approx. at these courses.
Unfortunately we don't know any locals so the prices specifically for
them aren't going to help us.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,
Gary.

| As far as club rentals go expect to pay $10-$20 per set, the problem I
see here is that most non-resort type courses will only have a few set
of rentals available. So it will be helpful to know ahead of time how
many sets you would need and to call around to see which clubs could
handle your group. Places like Disney would have no problem (5 courses
$75pp). Also check where you are staying, most hotels have arangements
with local clubs for their guests. As far a what type of course do you
like, Florida is a place where you can find any type of course you
want from Links to traditional to open/tight, lots of water or just
plain Goofy Golf (tricked up for the tourist). As far as clearwater
goes I'v have no Idea. I will be back in the office on Monday send me
a mail message Mike Sivret @ORO and we'll try to get you set up
somewhere.

316.5 | GOLF IN ORLANDO | BRUMMY::HEMMING | | Thu Jul 23 1992 05:20 | 12 |
| I am staying in Orlando from 30/7/92 to 13/8/92 and am looking for
somewhere to play golf. Can anyone recommend a good place to play, and
the cost?
Can I hire all the equipment rather than taking my own as I am
travelling from the U.K.
Also I may wish to buy clubs in Orlando as they are cheaper than
purchasing them in the U.K. Can anyone suggest a good discount store?

| I have been in touch with Mike Sivret in the US via ALLIN1 on this
subject my mail address is Gary Cobain @BVO (VaxMail BELFST::COBAIN).
At this point we have arranged to play golf on Thursday 6th August,
there will be five of us from N. Ireland and Mike may join us, he is
going to sign us in at his club, and is trying to arrange Club Rental
for us. If you mail Mike he may be able to sign you in as well.
If you are interested in buying clubs over there Mike has informed me
that good deals can be had at the moment (I'll probably bring my own
clubs, and trade them in over there).
Gary.
