296.0. "Videogame arcades at Disney" by HANNAH::DOUCETTE (Common Sense Rules!) Mon Feb 03 1992 08:52

I'm looking for some info. Considering that I haven't had a chance to make
it down to Disney, I need an expert to fill me in?

I would like to know how many videogame arcades are at the Disney resorts
including Disneyland, Disneyworld, EuroDisney, etc. Also, how big are
these arcades compared to local arcades?

Please reply or send mail to HANNAH::Doucette.

thanx!
Dave

    re .0:

I can't say for anywhere else (mostly because I don't remember),
    but Disneyland has three arcades.

    	1. Main St. Penny arcade has two alcoves hidden from the street
that have more modern games. I'd consider it mid-sized.

    	2. Tomorrowland has a two-story structure full of games just next
    		to Space Mountain.

    	3. Critter Country has a rather small arcade between the exits to
Splash Mountain and Country Bear. This one has a handful
of old games (mostly shooting gallery types), and two
copies of "Mad Dog McCree" (which I will gladly describe to
anyone who wants to know it, but offline)

Thanks for the info on Disneyland. What about WDW, etc? Can anyone
else help me on this?

You may be wondering why I'm asking this question. Well, without getting
into much details, there is a group inside Digital looking into the
possibility of connecting all the arcades in Disney to a WAN/LAN for
keeping world-wide top scores.

Sooo... this may get some visibility for Digital inside Disney.

P.S.
Please note the words... POSSIBILITY ... MAY ... none of this is definite
but we need to know if it's worth even proposing!

I expect that each hotel/complex has an arcade. Certainly CBR,
Port Orleans and Fort Wilderness have. The Penny Arcade in Main
Street in the MK also has it's share of video games as well as the
    traditional nickel and dime ones.

As regards the games, I can only confirm (from bitter experience)
that each of the above had one of the accursed Ninja Terrapins (or
    whatever!) machines.

I can also confirm that my name won't be on the list of high
    scorers!

From my '89 edition of Birnbaum (92 is in the mail :^()

All the Disney owned Resort Hotels have a game room, Fort Wilderness
has 2 one at the Meadow Trading Post and one at Pioneer Hall, 1 arcade
at each of the 2 Villa Centers. Not sure of the Village hotels

MK - Penny Arcade on Main Street, Frontierland Shootin' Arcade.

Epcot - COmmunicore, although not video games as such, they are many
hands on displays which have games as themes.

    MGM - not sure

BTW if this is realted to a possible DEC/Disney project, did you
    considered contacting Disney?

Sorry! Forgot to mention that the Vacation Club has one (although
I've only seen my friend's kids playing it on video) and also the
    Y&BC.

Thanks for the info,

I wanted to make sure there was enough arcades to make it worth even
contacting Disney (sounds like there might be).

Does anyone know about Disney Japan or Euro-Disney?
